First Project Ever ( Never used scrollsaw before )
« on: July 30, 2013, 03:27:21 pm »
I posted this in my introduction but decided to post it in here as well I did this last week it is one of Steve Goode's Blog Patterns and I did it with Plywood and Poplar Hand Sanded since I dont have a power sander or a drill press and dremel tool just makes it look worse.. Everything works even if its not the best looking. I finished it by spraying it with polyurethane.

That is excellent work especially for a first project. They are not easy to make even for a scroller with a bit of experience let alone for someone who hasn't used a scroll saw before. well Done.

Heck of a first project and a lot harder than what I did first!   I hope you have been able to uncurl your fingers after all that sanding.   ;D

The only thing I would suggest is that (in future) you make the grain of the drawer fronts go in the same direction as the wood it fits into.  In this project, it's no big deal, you've made something to be proud of and I don't mean to detract from that.  Little details like that will make your later projects look even better.  No doubt you're off to a good start!

Becky thing is I didnt even notice I had the grain running the opposite direction till afterwards due to how I had the plans laid out. Next one will be different.

You will discover several things you didn't notice before as you go along.  It's just part of the learning curve.  I hope you didn't mind my trying to help you move along it a little faster.   My intentions were friendly.

Becky by all means thats how we learn if someone were to take offense at what you said then that person wouldnt be a true artist and craftsman because both of those things requires a person to be able to take another persons insight and mold it into their own. I was just saying that I didnt mean for that to happen ( And Actually I've gotten a few replies of people who like the contrasting grains of the shelves which to each their own ). I like having a continuous grain pattern and I think it was more me trying to conserve the plywood by putting the pieces so tightly together that got me that.
