Pattern help
« on: June 29, 2013, 10:07:37 am »
After several days and trying several different programs I have come to the conclusion that I really really suck at pattern making. I knew I was in trouble when the harsh language didn't work. I am attempting to make 2 patterns and would appreciate any help. They are rather simple.

You're welcome. Your cars are exceptional. If you cut either, please post a photo.

EIEIO, is that using GIMP and Inkscape as so many members seem to use?

I have downloaded the program and the tutorials but not yet had the time to watch them and try my luck.

Great patterns too.

Yes this was GIMP and Inkscape. You can do this with just GIMP, but Inkscape gives that smooth vector finish. This process does not achieve the extreme detail that Charlie has been posting with his 55 and the big rig - instead the result looks like a hand sketch of the photo with good proportions. I like it. Here's an interesting deviation using Inkscape - after making the SVG Trace, go to Path->Simpify. Sometime you get a nice effect. This one has smoother curves and has no background color so you can overlay it with another graphic.

Uploaded photos can only by 128kB or smaller. There are different ways to reduce photo size. If you have Microsoft Office on your computer, you can right click the photo them Open With... and pick Microsoft Office. Them Picture..Compress Picture and set to Web size and save.

Or if you use some web repository for photos like Picassa, you can just link to the photo in your post.

For some reason, I cannot poat the 57 Mark II. I have resized it and even reloaded the original photo. Sorry. FYI. The photos do not do these cars justice. I have sat in them and ooed and awed. The T-Bird is absolutly gorgeous. He is now in the process of restoring his Dad's original 1948 Buick.
