Scroll Sawing Brass.
« on: March 08, 2013, 03:58:46 pm »
You may have seen my posts asking about blades for scroll sawing brass.  Just thought I'd share a couple examples of what I'm doing.   Sandwiching the brass sheet between thin MDF seems to work best to control vibrations.   Once I have the shape cut out, I perform chemical etching with mild acid.    Not quite sure what I'll do with these, but I was thinking of incorporating them into one of my woodworking projects.

Nice!

I could see that as an inlay on some real nice wood. Maybe a box top?

Looks slick. Could you make your own brass nameplates with logo to add to your scroll pieces?

Router inlay into woodwork like a box top would be gorgeous and not difficult!  Great job!

Yes, I've thought about making brass "Made By" plates.    Text needs to be of a decent size and thickness so that the acid does not etch it too thinly.   I've put patterns on Brass bullet shells which come out really nice.     I'll post some updates once I figure out what I'm going to do with these.    I bet a flower or leaf pattern on brass, then inlaid into wood would look really nice.

Thanks for the positive feedback
