Polymer and Sculpey clay
« on: February 12, 2013, 06:21:29 pm »
I've made a key chain with a name on one side and something else on the other side.
I used polymer clay on the one side  and sculpey clay on the other.
My problem is the filmo polymer clay bakes at 230 F for 30 min  and the Sculpey clay bakes at 275 F for 15 Min.
Im ready for baking . but not sure if I will over cook this or if it will cook properly.
Anyone encountered this problem and what temp to cook it at.

I've only used the Polymer clay. Sorry can't help you here. Only one way to find out, try it. I know if the polymer bakes too long, it will get too dry and crack out of the cut. I don't know how the sculpey clay will do, knowing that I have never used it.

http://www.polymerclayweb.com/aboutpolymerclay/brands/fimo.aspx

The link says it can still be cured at the higher temperature.

But you won't know till you try it.  I'd make a test object with the two clays and try that, especially if you've got any significant time in the key chain.

I've made a test piece and for 1/8" inch wood I set the oven at 250F for 30min and it worked out good. Now for the real thing.

Thanks for the coments.
