My phone call from / to Porter Cable
« on: January 16, 2013, 06:06:44 pm »
I had my phone call with a Mr. Flynn from Porter Cable today. He did not call me as had been promised on Friday 1-11-13. My call was generated after the 4th saw that I have obtained went bad. Just like the first saw the blade started to wander for no reason. I had less than 4 hours on the saw. This was the point that I no longer needed   the heat in my garage or to have lights on since the glow from my face was able to care of both.
I explained to Mr. Flynn about the problems that I have had with all 4 saws. I told him that I was concerned about this and the reason I choose Porter Cable was that it stood for quality. I asked if any of the items they sell if they are any made in the United States. He stated NO! He then asked me what I wanted him to do about my problem. (I maintained and did not use any fowl language)  I told him I wanted a saw that worked. He said he would ship me a new saw But (here it comes) there was no guarantee that it would work.
I then asked him if there was anyone else I could talk to. He told me NO! I then asked him for the Name of the president of the company and the address of the corporate office. He gave me the address and I ended the call.
I then returned the saw to Lowe?s store and they were very good in dealing with me. In fact the girl at the exchange counter again just shook her head and said I would not buy another product made by that company. The department manager was very helpful and stated that he is going to have a strong talk to that?s companies rep the next time he comes in. The Lowes Store has been very good to me and i have no complaint about them.

I am without a saw and I am looking and saving money to buy my next saw which will be in a few weeks. Until then I will do research about the saw I will buy

Good job King!  When companies fail to stand behind the product that they make and sell, we need to know about that.  One time I had a problem with Sears and I wrote the CEO at that time an email.  Within 20 min. of hitting the send button, I had the regional VP calling me and immediately fixed the problem, over and above my expectations!  I also had a personal visit from the manager of the Sears store to my home to make amends!

They talk to us like we are stupid, but when their boss speaks to them, things change quickly!

Good job!

I had a similar problem with a Mastercraft Scrollsaw. I gave up on the saw after the 4th one.
I ended up searching for a used saw and eventual found a used Dewalt for $125.

I have looked at the delta 40-690 and the 40-695. the 90 had less problems but is a little more money $549 vs $499 for the 95
The dewalt I found for $549 which includes stand an light but it has some of the same issues as the delta 95.
Looking at the Black an Gold machine but not sure yet I need to do more research 1st. Made in the USA is $$$$ than I can afford right now.
I will place an order by the end of the month. My brothers $64 saw from menards is working fine.?????????????????????? ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

king310, as I said before I can relate. I'm in the market for a new saw in the next few months and was considering a Porter Cable, but after hearing your story and with everything I've read I don't think I'm going there. I'm sort of at a loss as to a good brand to buy now. As far as Delta I've had a pretty fair ammount of trouble with mine: the threads that hold the table on stripped out for no good reason and I had to add a nut on the back side, the threads in the key at the bottom of the tension shaft stripped out which I had to grind down to make room for a nut there, then last week that key broke so I had to Jerry rig it and about the same time the tension lever broke...had to have it welded because the part is obsolete and no replacement is available. This is a lower line model but it's only 2 years old. It's pretty sad. Please keep us posted on wether or not you hear back from Porter Cable's Corporate office.
