Help with this Feline Portrait please

As some of you may know, I've had some mild success this week with a few attempts at people portraits. But this one has been my first animal attempt and I've not done a very good job of it. I was hoping to have this done in a week or so for a friend as her cat is her life. Can someone please help me out with this one. Thanks in advance.

Don what a great job. I will definitely be cutting this one and will post when done. Larry, my efforts came out something like yours. I see we are both on the same learning curve so I can appreciate the effort you put into the pattern. Before long though I'm hoping you and I can do up patterns like Don and Mahendra. Below was my effort of which I didn't like where I was going with it and the further I progressed, the more I didn't like it. Hence my request.

Mike your pattern was coming along nicely, it had a few floaters  but they would have been easily fixed.  Don't give up yet.

Oh, I'm definitely not giving up Marg. I'm really enjoying this working on patterns thing. But I believe the learning process may be a bit slower than I had first anticipated. I'm no artist by any stretch of the imagination so it will take me longer, but that's OK.
