Corian...
« on: December 29, 2012, 01:08:43 pm »
I have been seeing more and more folks using Corian and would like to try it.

1. I am looking for a source or sources to obtain the material.

2. Any recommendations, tips, tricks, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

I get mine in offcuts from out local kitchen fitters, they use it for the worktops. It turns beautifully and makes fantastic pens. I have even used it to make the "stacked bowls" similar to the bowls made on the scrollsaw. you need very sharp scrapers to cut it on the lathe and then sand it wet with wet and dry paper, I go down to 15,000 grit then polish it with a burnishing compound to get a high gloss finish. I don't know how well it would work on the scrollsaw though.  Hope this helps you GB.

Corian has been used by a lot scrollers.
Like making trivets and many other cuttings.
The best blade is the Polard # 5. The teeth are off-set just a hair what helps that it does not
melt back together. Also use the package tape what releases friction due to the chemial what
is on the top of the blade. What is some kind of silicone.
