I'm new to the Forum but an old-timer to the Scrollsaw workshop.  I found Steve's site in 2008 and have been cutting some of his patterns ever since. 

But over the years I found myself noticing that the patterns were sometimes hard to locate.  Currently there are over 1100 patterns and to go through all of them looking for a CAT, was quite a chore.  I thought "someone needs to make a pattern catalog."  But no one listened    So I figured, what the heck, I'll do it.  I knew Steve was super busy with the Scrollsaw Workshop and maintaining a normal life so I volunteered.  He was gracious enough to accept my offer and if you have used the "Pattern Catalog" then you've seen the final result.

As with any computer software project, there is always room for improvement.  As the catalog grows in size I think about the pattern categories and wonder if we should have any NEW categories....or maybe some of the current ones are not relevant? 

For example - there are currently 265 patterns in the category - "Plaques, Portraits and Signs".  Should this category maybe be broken up into smaller categories...and if so, what should they be? 

Also, when you are looking for a pattern, is there a particular category that you think should be added to the menu?

And please keep in mind that there are currently 49 separate categories.  So we don't want to add too many extras and make the menu too big.  Lots of things to think about

the one i have is,first of all i was just in the pattern Catalog and in the reading it says 39 not 49 categories. but in nature alone you have 9 different categories cant you put them in a sub category under nature with an drop down arrow like in other sites instead of 9 different ones?

Hey papafrankc, personally I don't have any suggestions on improving the pattern catalog, but I did want to thank you for all your hard work! It is nice to have when I want to find a Steve Good pattern. I think it works fine as is.
Where in Ca. are you from? I'm in Moorpark, in Ventura Co.

Thank you all for your kind words.  It was a fun project and I'm glad it's useful for Steve's followers.

To Newfie:  I changed the 39 to 49 on the front page.  Thanks for noticing.  If I make any changes to the menu I'll try to remember to update the front page.

Your suggestion of having Sub-Menus, especially for Nature... is a good one.  I used Wordpress to create the catalog and at the time did not think it had that capability.  However after taking a closer look I see that they do have that feature.  I think having sub-menus would give us the ability to better refine the searching function.  I'll look into it after the holidays and see if I can get it working for us.  Thanks for the suggestion.

To dgman:  I'm in Temecula, Riverside county.  About half way between LA and San Diego.
