New job
« on: October 23, 2012, 05:35:13 pm »
Hi to all my friends here!

Some may know from my FB postings that I started a new plumbing job.
It is for a 24 hour on call service shop, so basically right up my alley. I started on the 11th, so 13 days ago. I have worked on 5 of those days and had 5 of those days off and that leaves 3 days with no work while being on call.
I can still do math!
1 of those days off I had some of my own work to do!

Time will tell if it really will work out for me. He wants me available at all times when I am on call. Like today, I sat around home while getting no calls, but if he sent me one I would have to jump to it and go. A bit frustrating when nothing happens and you are wondering all day if something will. Then you can't go out and about and do your own thing either.

So that's where I am at for now.

Harold

Make him furnish you a cell phone, so you don't have to sit and wait for his call. That's the least he can do.

hi Harold, congrats with the new job.
I hope it pays well.
can't you get some waiting money from the guy for being available 24/7, like a 5%  or 10% waiting fee for every hour you sit there and wait?
sounds fair to me.

Yup, I would make sure the phone rings LOUDLY and set it in a bowl (amplifier) in the shop and enjoy the wait.
