Jesus saves
« on: October 08, 2012, 09:36:26 pm »
I got a new saw and my first test was with 1/2" red oak.  My 1/16" drill bit broke so I was stuck with 1/8" for the interior holes.  Boo.
The dust blower on the new saw wouldn't stay put, kept wandering at the worst times so I couldn't see where the blade was going. Fought a desperate fight to keep the blade from wandering with the grain. I lost miserably in a few places.  Yikes.  Some spots are terrible.

The back of the dust blower has threads that are supposed to screw into a metal tube, but noooo it just flops around.  I finally resorted to crazy gluing it in place. Works great now.  Lol.

I sanded it and rubbed it down with mineral oil  The oak looks nice!  This is my first time scrolling oak.  I like it.  If you don't look too close (of if you look at a fuzzy photo, lol) looks pretty cool.  As soon as it dries some I'll spray it with Deft clear wood finish.

Not a bad job at all for your first attempt. With a new saw as well that needed setting up too.  What blades were you using? when I started I had the devils own job trying to follow the lines on patterns, it just wandered wherever it wanted to. Then I found this forum and was told blades make all the difference, I bought some FD UR blades from Mikes Workshop
( www.mikesworkshop.com ) it improved my cutting instantly, I found I could follow lines a lot easier and within a week or so I even managed a plaque of my mum (pattern courtesy of our own Grampa on this forum)
It's all a case of "Mind over Matter",  The Government don't Mind, and I don't Matter.
