blade speed

Hello and yes I am back,

On the speed of the saw blade, I see in the manual it say this speed for that blade and so on,

so in reality its like you go as fast as the blade lets you with out to much heat or binding, dragging the motor down, so I should just use my ears and the feel of the work piece as the blade goes through it,

I think this is more of a touch or feel type of work once one has done it and found the right group of things going together to make it happen, its like when I played golf to make the easy sing, with the right speed and effort in combination with club, direction and focus to an end, pure hits make a certain sound and feel when done right, done right without effort or thought, it just happens, which comes from practice, what we're talking practice, practice, man, lol, basket ball humor (AI),

The blades I ordered should be here tomorrow and hopefully the saw too, right Mike,

Ok, back to reading/learning more about patterns and making them, Poppa Rob

Hey Rob, You got that exactly right. It's a feel that you will developer. I am a scroll saw instructor at the local Woodcraft store. I start them off at half speed. I tell them that if you feel the cutting is lagging then turn up the speed a little, and if you cant stay on the line, then turn it down a little. Eventually you will developer a "feel" for the speed.

I agree entirely with Rob. I cut 3/4 hardwood most of the time and recently my Dewalt mark 1 died but it is going to be resurrected soon. I cannot be without a saw so I took the plunge and bought a Hegner HM2S. It is a very nice saw in every way but there is just one major problem as far as I am concerned and that is the speed. It only goes up to 1450, the Dewalt goes up to 1750. As a result I keep breaking blades on the Hegner and to be honest when I am cutting along the grain it is like watching paint dry. Despite a couple of layers of clear packing tape the blades heat up and when I do a tight turn that is when the blade normally breaks and I am using FD-URs 7s and 5s on the internal cuts. It will be another month before the Dewalt is back. There are many plus points for the Hegner and it is brilliant for the internal cuts, deadly accurate but I am running it on full speed most of the time but it is still to slow for many things.

If I may, chippygeoff

To me what you might try is a slower speed yet when doing the part that breaks the blade, I know it sound dumb, one time I was trying to use my jig saw to cut out something like that, a tight cut out and all I got was a hard time, Miss Linda said let me try, she has never used a jig before so she started out slow with it, variable speed jig, next thing i know its done, so I tried it at about half the speed I was trying before, went through the wood like butter,

So now I have learned to play with the speed when what I am using/doing is not working, just me thinking out loud and sharing a thought, what we think we know should work sometimes is just the opposite of what will, been there, done that, alot

dgman,

Cool, what store, I go to the one in OK City when we go there every year for Miss Linda's eye surgery checkup, I like the place and order chit sometimes online,

Last time I was there in OK, I was lucky to find a lot on sale, got a nice set of 16 foster bits for less than $40, some sand belts that I have a hard time finding, router bits that I wanted and could not afford and some other chit, bill was over $500 but I saved over $200,
