Been a while
« on: May 05, 2012, 02:04:06 am »
Well its been a while since I posted on here.  Since I finally got a job with a Navy Contractor that pays just enough to stay in the poor house working as a Shipwright.  I have been working six days a week and been busy at home.  Well after 8 months since I applied for a job at the Naval Shipyard here in WA I finally got an interview.  They told me I would hear from them in 2-3 weeks on a decision.  Well 12 days after the interview I got the phone call that they wanted to pursue me for the position.  So I will be starting sometime in the next few months as an Engineeirng Technician doing work controls and systems testing.  I cant wait to get back to white collar job.
On another note my 20 y/o stepson is now living with us after he got into some trouble.  Well its kinda nice we have been doing some woodworking together over the last week.  He has helped me start work on an end table and he has been practicing on the scrollsaw.  He actually does pretty well on it.

Hang in there Chief, it sounds like you will be doing just fine in your new job. I'm pulling for you!
How does it feel being a civilian after all those years? I'm sure you have had some adjustments to make.
Not the least of which is dealing with people who have no discipline what so ever, and come to work looking like slobs and are slobs. I remember the shock I felt after only 4 years wearing the Navy blue, and returning to civilian life.
Will you still be living in Washington, or will you have to relocate?

I'm happy to read that things are going OK.  The new job sounds like it could be just the thing for you.  It is also good that you are taking some time with your stepson.  I am sure that you are making a positive impact on his life and it is something that will help shape him for adulthood.  Good luck with the new job.  I wish you all the best.

Great to hear from you again!

Glad everything is working out well for you Chief. It will feel good going to work  with a gleaming white shirt. It's also good to hear your step son is coming along fine. Wishing you both good luck for the future.

So glad to hear that things are on the upward stroke for you.  You will have to show us some of your step son's work so that we can praise him and lift his spirits more.

Gabby:  We will stay right where we are.  We will move eventually to a new house, but stay in this area.
Half the people I will be working with are retired Navy.

GB:  I havent worn dungarees since 2000 when they fazed them out and went to utilities.  I havent worn utilities since 2005 when I made Chief.  But it is confusing having to coordinate you clothes everyday for work.  Right now I just wear jeans and a t-shirt since I am working as a shipwright building scaffolding.  That will all change soon and it will be jeans and a collared shirt with a nice comfy chair.

That's good! Relocating for a job can be stressful and you can end up in some sorry locations that way.
Best of luck to you in the new job.
