Computer questions / Re: Links for Websites
« on: August 25, 2014, 09:03:30 pm »
Merlin, you can type in the BBC code for the URL using the code found here.
Go down to URL in the alphabetized list and the code is shown there.
Basically you use the hyperlink button in the compose message and change the first bracket following the first [url] to an equal sign, then put in the left facing bracket after your url (IE: http://stevedgood.com/community/index.php) then type in the text you want to have someone click on after that bracket and before the ending bracketed url.
Hope that is somewhat clear :). If you go to the link I mentioned you will see what I mean.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: outdoor signs
« on: April 04, 2014, 09:19:46 am »
I've done a few camper signs and cabin signs. Usually I use 3/4 inch cedar boards for the cut out piece and back with painted 1/4 exterior ply for the backer. I then put a couple of coats of exterior waterbased poly on to seal everything. If you use Danish oil make sure it is thoroughly dry before coating with the  waterbased poly or use a oil based exterior spar varnish. I found the poly or varnish darkens the cedar enough that the oil would not really be needed. Experiment with some small pieces to see if you like it. The spar varnish will turn an amber color over time while the exterior poly stays more clear.

PS: Make sure you use an exterior wood glue to attach the backer to the face.

I did a little looking and found that your printer uses 2 black ink cartridges. One is used to mix with the color cartridges to create black when printing in color. The other is a pigment based cartridge that is used only to print black/greyscale images and documents. (I used to have a Canon printer that used the same thing.)
Try printing just a page with a greyscale image and set your printing preferences/properties to greyscale and see if that makes a difference. Make sure your not printing in draft mode.
If these things make no difference, I am at a loss to what is happening.

If the patterns are showing up on the screen correctly, it probably is a printer problem. Ink cartridge low on ink or toner, or print head needs cleaning. Try printing a document and see if you get the same results.
It may help if we knew what type of printer you are using.

Don't see a fence with it. If it has just been sitting it probably would need new tires. Add Carter bearings to the price and a riser and new blades. That together would set you back probably another $200- 250, putting you up to almost the price of the Grizzly. It says OBO, I wouldn't give more than $100-200 for it.

I'm with you on this Becky. Seems this has been an unusually cold, snowy, and long winter here in WI. Even though my shop is in the basement of my home I still haven't felt like spending too much time there. The having to go shovel snow seemingly every day takes the wind out of my sails or maybe I'm just getting old.  ;)

I buy the Wood Slicer blades from Highland Woodworking http://www.highlandwoodworking.com/bandsaw-blades-accessories.aspx for resawing. They also sell general purpose blades in all sizes. Haven't used the general purpose blades but if the Wood Slicer blades are any indication they should be very good blades and the prices are reasonable.

EIEIO is right. If the piece will only come out in one direction it is probably the blade is not square to the table in a left/right direction. If the blade is not square to the table front to back the problem would be that your cut would not be finished on the top or bottom (depending upon which direction it is off) when cutting into a corner from two directions. You would have to cut further into the wood to free the piece. You would not notice the problem except on thicker wood. You can check the front to back by just cutting slowly through a thicker piece of wood and watch to see if the top or bottom of the blade exits first or pretty much exits the wood at the same time.
Check the side to side angle by taking a thicker piece of wood and cutting into it a little. Then turn the piece over and see if the cut you just made aligns with the blade. If not an adjustment of the table side to side must be made.

There is a correction (read the post at http://stevedgood.com/community/index.php?topic=12502.0) .
The hole in the bracket itself can be filed out (elongated) if the correction needed isn't too drastic. I filed mine down a little bigger then shimmed the bracket up slightly until I got the blade where I wanted it in relation to the table then tightened the bolt. This was a few years ago and haven't had it slip yet.

PS: A little changed at the rear table bracket goes along ways at the blade. A 1/32 inch change at the bracket probably translates to a 1/8 inch or more to the angle of the blade.

Dixie,
While all the advice you have been given so far by everyone is great, the one thing I found that is the most helpful is to concentrate on the cutting line slightly in front of the blade. (1/8" -1/4"). It is too late to make corrections with the travel of the blade if you concentrate on where the blade is, instead of where you want it to go.
The car driving analogy is good- point it the direction you want to be not where it is now.

I use strap clamps and glue the corners. After drying I use one of these http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=10547 to reinforce the corners to make sure they don't separate.

Been using one for probably 5 years now. It's the only thing I use to drill holes for scrollsaw work.
Be advised that you would need a variable chuck for your Dremel in order to use the different size drill bits.

Little late reading your post. Got the email and had already had ordered 5 bits.
Needed a couple replacements and also got a couple different ones I didn't have.
