General Scroll Saw Talk / need some advice on spiral blades
« on: February 12, 2019, 10:26:25 am »
I have a Hawk 220 and I am trying to learn how to use spiral blades. I have FD Spiral Reverse #1 and 2/0.  The problem I am having is getting the blade to stay connected to upper blade holder. The twist in the end of blade is hard to get the clamp to tighten down on. It pops out and bends the blade pretty bad. If anyone has some tips or advice I would sure appreciate it.

I haven't been on here in a long time. It has been a busy and difficult year. I am making some Christmas presents and my back is really hurting. Just wondering what kind of chair you all might recommend for sitting at saw. I just have a metal stool with a cushion on top. Need something better.

I have cut several Christmas gifts out of 1/4" Baltic Birch using a FRUR #1. Today I started cutting some out of Hard Maple board using FDUR #1. The blades seem to last longer cutting the hard maple board than the plywood.
Am I imagining this or is the plywood harder on blades? I thought maybe the glue in the plywood was causing it.
Anyone have any info I would appreciate it.

Do you have tensioned right and not to loose.

Yes sir I am pretty sure I am adjusting it right. The top blade holder does have some wiggle to it. I wonder if that is my problem. I may replace it and see if that fixes the problem

I haven't been on here for quite a while due to health issues. I am back into scrolling now and just started using my Hawk again. It is an older one 220 two speed. It seems the blade is wobbling side to side. Is there and adjustment for this or maybe a worn out part?

Pattern Requests. / Needing a pattern made
« on: September 10, 2015, 07:13:49 pm »
Hey everyone, I haven't been on here in awhile because things have been very busy for me. I am starting on some Christmas projects and was wondering if someone here could help me.

I have a picture of a old time travel trailor and need it transformed into a pattern for scrolling. If anyone can help me I sure would appreciate it.

Thanks,
  George

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Question about Danish Oil
« on: March 04, 2015, 10:06:13 pm »
Just wipe it on with a rag, let it sit for a few minutes (15 minutes) and wipe it off. Let it dry over night before adding a top coat (if you intend to add a top coat).
It is not going to "soak in" as the top layer of plywood is very thin so any more coats is a waste of time and oil.
Dipping it is a waste of time and oil also. Don't worry about all the "little tiny holes" unless you want to take a cotton swab and spend a few minutes wiping the inside of holes in plywood. No one will ever notice or care if there are some "bare places" except you.

Rog

Thanks Roger I am going to give it a try

General Scroll Saw Talk / Question about Danish Oil
« on: March 04, 2015, 07:43:29 pm »
I am going to try some Danish Oil finish on my projects. I have some made out of 1/4" BB. Can I dip that in the oil or will it cause the plys to separate? Should I just wipe it with rag and try to get it in all the tiny holes and cuts as best as I can?
