The Coffee Shop / Re: It has been a tough 6 weeks

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and comments. Glenda continues to bounce between hospital and nursing facilities. I continue to try to understand all the ins and outs of Medicare, Supplemental Insurance, and Long Term Care insurance. My dining room table looks like a hurricane has hit it due to all the paperwork on top of it, but we are persevering.

Glenda belongs to 2 great quilt guild groups in Alaska, as well as one here, she receives 15-20 cards per week. She loves opening them and seeing what her friends are up to as they quilt the winter and now spring away.

This week she is able to wiggle her left foot for the first time since January 15. I think the doctor was as excited as I was.

Thank you for your comments Norm, GLC and Spirit Horse. This week finds Glenda still in the SNF, hating her physical therapy, but know she must try her best. Our daughter was here last week and that really helped us both.

Today I cleaned out her locker in the sewing room with the help of a number of her quilting friends. I also met a lady who went through the same thing as Glenda did and is back to quilting and being very productive. She has a nursing/missionary type background and will go over to see Glenda sometime this week, she is also a friend of Glenda so hopefully they will be able to communicate.

Also was told I could use the carving room all I wanted this summer - there is a new Dewalt 788 in there that I have not had a chance to try yet. Also was told I can become a monitor in the woodworking shop so I can go in there and work as well, only stipulation being that I cannot use any power tools unless a second person is there with me. Both of these are great news as I can turn as well as scroll that way, and when someone is with me I can cut, joint and sand my scrap for cutting boards.

Glenda is currently in a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) and the bills are still being covered by Medicare and our Med Supp. She has been showing steady improvement, but as you can imagine, she still has a long way to go. We have made arrangements with a group home here in Surprise, Az that will take her in when the SNF (nursing home) is told by Medicare that they are no longer willing to foot the bill. I will be going to AK early in April for 2 weeks to take care of some issues with the house, and prepare to rent it out for the next year. I will be spending the summer in Arizona close to my bride of 50 years.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. I will do better to keep you up dated.

on January 15th my wonderful wife of 49+ years suffered a burst brain aneurysm. After 3 weeks in the ICU and 3 operations, another week in a neuro ward, four days in a Skilled Nursing Facility (aka Nursing home), another 4 days in the hospital ICU, another 4 days in the SNF, another 3 days in ICU for a 4th operation, and a day in regular ward, we are back in the SNF as of this past Friday night. Our kids have all been here at different times, and wonderful neighbors have taken care of our dog, and kept me going. I know the wife is having a terrible time with rehab, let alone all the returns to the ICU. We are in our winter digs in AZ, and have no idea if and when we will be able to return home to Alaska. This is why you have not seen me around for a while. I pray that things go well, wife starts improving, and I can get back to scrolling and turning.

I bought 2 of these LED lights from Amazon about a year ago. I have one on my scroll saw along with the mag light, and the other on my lathe. They are great, lots of light, stay cool and the light is nice and white.

Nice napkin holder Bob. Welcome to our group, glad to see another Alaskan come aboard. You have gotten some good suggestions, and you will improve as you get more practice. Just keep cutting, adjust blade speed and feed rate, try different blades until you find the combinations that work for you. Last but not least, do not be afraid to ask for help.

Barb, I also use tung oil on some of my puzzles, as mineral oil never cures very well. Scott Seifer had a good youtube on his wordimal puzzles. Here is the link to his channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrcQ1TitDtz-ViCOg1RUN8Q. I tried to find the clip on his shop, Steve Good might have it on his blog still, it was a clip from sometime in 2017 as I remember.

Barb, I have found that it will fill those tight areas pretty well, as it does tend to soften as you rub it on, I use my fingers to start, and then use a paper towel to clean up any excess.

Nbmartin, that jig is for a table saw, but with a little modification should work on a band saw as well. Good Luck!!
