General Scroll Saw Talk / inkscape help
« on: February 11, 2024, 02:36:58 pm »
I put in inkscape a drawing of a bird wing for whirligigs.  I used the Bezier tool first,  then Right click on the line of the  image. A box appears around the image. I  Click Duplicate and try to move the image below the first image and  the whole page moves downward. Don't know what i'm doing wrong. I hope someone can help me.
Thanks in Advance

« on: August 06, 2023, 11:54:48 pm »
My saw blade locking handle keeps coming unlocked after about 10 seconds, even without a blade in it ,it loosens off.
Has any one had that problem?  Jim

General Scroll Saw Talk / tape residue
« on: January 19, 2022, 10:06:29 pm »
I'm wondering how to remove scotch tape residue from wood.
I used a heat gun but still have the tape residue to remove.
I'm not sure if I used some Acetone before?
What works    Thanks Jim

General Scroll Saw Talk / Puzzle. front or back
« on: December 07, 2019, 09:23:52 am »
I scrolled out the steam train puzzle from Scrollsaw Woodworking & crafts Winter 2019 issue.
I used Maple and want to keep the front a natural finish.
My question is how would the Grandkids identify the front from the back as it is gifts for them. If I paint the back a color they may think that is the front?
It would be hard to put together if they didn't know what was the front.
any help wood be great.
thanks. Jim

Ask Steve a question. / LED Mafnifying headset
« on: March 30, 2019, 11:45:53 am »
Hi Steve
I was at Lee Valley tool store this week and tried on a pair of the LED magnifying headsets.
I normally use a desk magnifyer for scrolling.
I also found that I would have to be up quiet close to the blade in order to see clearly.
I also tried on the 3.5 lens .
So for me I would have to be too close for scrolling.

Im using inkscape . I use Steves (Deer ornaments 2 sizes) pattern in inkscape. I made a grey circle, slightly larger than the pattern circle and cut out the center of the circle.
How do I weld the circle over the patturn circle? I've looked on youtube with no luck.
I have tryed to draw a box around the pattern to select it but the pattern moves.

General Scroll Saw Talk / leopard Warped
« on: January 11, 2019, 11:44:15 am »
I stack cut and  scrolled Steves Leopard 2018 march 22   ,13.5' x 11' , with 1/4' baltic birch and a 1/4' backer.
I have not spray finished it yet but found that the wood has warped somewhat and wondered if anyone has a suggestion as how to fix this.
Also i was thinking of selling one of the pieces. any ideas of price, in Canada.
Thanks Jim

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Pattern removal cost

The cheapie peel and stick from Walmart sells here for $8.00 (for clear) and 4.00 for the white, both work real well for photo picture puzzles. I place it on the back side of the photo puzzle, then glue the pattern directly to the sacrifice board  (I use good quality spray 777) and bind the photo and sacrifice board  together with packing tape. this makes release of the packing tape from the puzzle pieces much easier then just using the packing tape. A role lasts for a long time,

Hi Norm
what dept at walmart can I find the peel and stick paper.
Thanks Jim

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Wood for Christmas Ornaments

Once again, something new is learned here!  Much appreciated.

I have found a few sources for 1/16" baltic birch in Canada.  Some are very expensive, and others are just expensive.

Michaels Canada does not list it on their website.

Suppliers like Exotic Woods Oakville and Peacock do not list anything under 1/8".
Where is peacock woods? is it in Oakville as well?
