General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Something Stinks in Canada and Taiwan

Shipping has always been a pain to me.  For years we had a online business and shipped allot, most small packages we used USPS Priority in their boxes...we would order 100's from them all the time delivered to our shop.  Large boxes we UPS as did out of Country shipments, except to our customers in Hawaii.  It cost much less, about a third, to use USPS.  Jump forward a few years and we find our self living in Hawaii.  Customers on the Mainland we had worried about shipping rates going up...but they went down by using USPS.  Worked fine for a couple years and then out of the blue their rates started going up and up.  Now it cost us an extra third to ship USPS Priority.  I try to use regular Post Office as it saves on the cost allot.

But when I order items from the Mainland at many Companies and ask them to ship USPS Priority or Flat Rate, they refuse.  Turns out the Post Office does not deliver or pick up from their business and they will not take the package to the Post Office.  Many Companies say the must charge more because of where we live but when asked the weight of the package and why my rate charts shows less, they have no answer.  But some just say they do not ship to Hawaii or Alaska from the Main land.  That way they just have to deal with it I guess.

DW, since you have figured out just how to make designs for those nice scrolled signs, are you selling designs?

If you haven't done this already, put something under the back of your saw to raise it.  It will tilt the table toward you so you will be looking down at the line.  This helps allot, but of course using a light when needed will help as well

I agree those would be really nice gifts. but do seem a bit low priced.  Not counting the time to cut, just the design time would take awhile I would think.  But then I have never designed one.  When I was in Real Estate way back when, I would end up paying about $100 or more for a gift.  DW, how long does it take to design the sign?  You are speaking of the type that has the block style letters with the scrolled letters over them aren't you?

I agree Danny...sometimes the patterns for the smaller toys are not correct.  I am doing a very large train right now and not even using the printed pattern...just the measurements.

Dan, dried flowers like you say, but fresh flower will work as well...for a few days anyway.  That is about how long my wife uses them.

I'm sure we all have had the same problem.  When I receive an order of blades, I take the time to place them top to bottom by either eyesite (not very good at that any longer) or use the thumb process.  Then I place them in the holders with the top of all the blades up so when I insert a new blade, I will know right away which end goes up.  Painting would be a great idea, but I would be worried the paint would make the blades to large to fit into the holder...I could be wrong on this.

My wife and I drink a shot of Cherry Juice every morning and I know it helps, because when I complain about taking it and lets me off the hook, I go crawling back in a few days.  I don't do good on pain meds., so I take allot of vitamins and the cherry juice

I have used Delta's for years, but in the past few months, I bought the new Rigid 13" model.  I really like it. Great dust collection and have not noticed much snipe on smaller boards.  Well worth the money I spent.

Boy, when you take on a project you pick the big ones don't you.  You should really be proud of your work on that.

Slowcutter....did you say you sell Bandsaw boxes for $30?  What size are they.  I have boxes I make in Galleries here on the Island, and they sell for $100 - $400....about double what I sell them for.

Very nice piece.  You know, I have been scrolling for nearly 30 years and have never tired Intarsia.  Found a book and
VCR tape my wife bought for me years ago...maybe it's time to give this a try.  After all the Band saw boxes I have been making, I have the sanding skills down pretty good.   VCR tape...tells you how long I have had the book laying around!!
