I haven't tried painter's tape or shelf paper.  I'll give them a try. I've tried everything else.

Thanks,

The only time I ever stack cut is making Christmas ornaments.  So no stack cutting here.

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Removing Patterns

I have tried about everything applying patterns.  Mostly spray adhesives and I've tried 5 or 6 different ones of those.  Either they don't adhere to the wood and come up just when you're making that precision cut or you spend 15 or 20 minutes trying to get all the parts of the pattern of the part.

I tried Acetone and it's okay, but it releases the adhesive from the paper and still leave a residue on the wood. I want it off the wood.

I started out using 3-M Photo Mount when it was $3.00 a can, but now the last time I bought it, it was $13.00 a can.

I would always look for an adhesive with a temporary bond, which it is.  But I never have found out how long to wait before applying the pattern to the wood, and I've tried all different lengths of time.  duh

So here's what I do.  I use one of the cheaper brands of adhesive.  Right now I'm using Loctite that I bought at Lowes, but I don't think it matters.
Then I use a heat gun for 10 seconds or so, and the pattern comes right off, in one piece.  No more picking pieces off with my fingernail, and worrying that I'm going to break something getting it off.  (Watch your fingers with the heat gun.  It's HOT.)

Bought mine at Harbor Freight for $16.99.

Just my two cents worth,  You may want to try it.

I have made three of these.  Two in local churches and one in my home.

Took about three months for this one.  I have since added the additional base for it. Now stands about 62" high.

Introduce Yourself. / Re: Hello, guys

Hey Judy,
Let me tell you my story about lady scrollers.
In 2002 I was teaching a scrollsaw class and one of my pupils, who is named Joyce, took my class.  I always closed my classes by telling them that if they need any help or patterns, just give me a call.
Well, a couple of days later Joyce called my and said she would like to have the butterfly pattern.  I told her okay and how to get there.
She came over and we got to talking and I said to myself, "I've got to go out with this girl."
We have now bee married 18 years.
People ask her if she is still scroll sawing. She says she don't have too, she's got Roy.

She takes immediate possession of everything I make.   :)

Introduce Yourself. / Oldie but Newbie

First time on forum.  Thanks for letting me join.
Oldie: 84 years old.  Been woodworking for over 65 years.  Been scroll sawing for over 30 years.
Have made 100s of scroll saw projects and enjoyed every one of them.  Great hobby that will last a lifetime.  I'm proof of that.  :)

Taught scrollsaw classes at Woodcraft for about five years.  Won first place in the state senior games in 2005 for my Lord's Prayer.
Mostly like fretwork, but enjoy pictures too.  Not to much on intarsia. Also enjoy carpentry and building things, but slowing down on that with my age.

Hope I can add something to this forum to help others out.  Especially you younger scrollers.  I fear this hobby is losing out to the video games.

Thanks again for letting me join this forum.
