Took some digging to find it, but I cut this one so I *knew* it was out there.

Well *somebody* had to take the picture, right?  :P

The URL for today's Raccoon wall art pattern has a typo - there's only one c.  Just change it from 'racoon' to 'raccoon' and it will work just fine.

Until Steve gets the link to the Unicorn Rocker pattern fixed those of you who want to download can do what I did - click on the Pattern Catalog link on the top bar and grab it from there.

Or just click here: https://www.stevedgood.com/catalog/index.php

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: First scroll saw

I have the 18" Jet and I love it.  It uses holders for the blades.  You put the bottom end of the blade in the holder and use a hole on the side of the saw as a wrench to get it tight.  Then you slip the holder into the lower arm and flip a lever to clamp the top end.  The adjustment at the back of the saw is NOT the tension, it's just to get the arm parallel.  You turn the lever to get the tension set.  Once you have it set you're done - flip the lever closed and it's tight.  DO use a bit of tape or something to mark the setting of the back knob though - it can wander when you don't have a blade in.

Add a foot pedal for good control whichever saw you get.  I have the one from Harbor Freight because there's one six blocks from my house.  Cost about $15.  If you've ever used a sewing machine it's very similar.

The Jet IS about twice as much as the standard Dewalt but I'm very happy with my choice.

If you go back over to the main site and click on the 'Pattern Catalog' button at the top you can type 'clock' into the search bar and you'll find 192 patterns, some of which can be wall mounted.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Cedar Fencing
« on: March 01, 2023, 09:35:02 am »
Just use blue tape.  We had our fence rebuilt a couple of years ago.  Since then it's taken a few tree hits which I repaired myself.  Kept the damaged boards and have used them for various things.  Good old blue tape sticks well to the wood and the pattern sticks to that.

His pattern maker app (download from the main Workshop page) does names which work well as nameplates.

Welcome!

Not sure if there's somewhere to buy jigs for scrolling but from having done hand engraving I can tell you how I'd make some.
Use 2 layers of 1/8" (maybe even try 1/16").  Cut a circle just a little smaller than the coin in one layer, a circle the size of the coin in the other layer, glue the two layers up and then split the stack across the center.  Put your coin in and use a couple of small clamps to hold it shut.  You could go so far as to put ears on the corners so you can use a pair of bolts to clamp it shut.  Just a thought.

Hmmm...  I wonder if Steve has ever posted a jig.  This is the page where you can search *all* of the patterns.  It takes forever to load but once it does it's fun:

Enjoy!

Good luck!

My ever-indulgent wife had cataract surgery last summer and came out great.  It's amazing what they can do these days and hopefully you will soon be an example of that.

Check out MicroMark (MicroMark.com) - they do stuff for models, especially including Model Railroads so they have various lighting choices.
Also a *ton* of great tools.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: SPEAKING OF WHAT BLADE TO USE....:+}
« on: February 22, 2022, 08:39:08 am »
One of the things the guy who taught me (Mr. M down in Branson, MO) taught was that you have to match the blade speed to the blade and the cut.  If the sawdust isn't clearing then you're not cutting as well as you should be.  I've found that as a blade dulls I can get more good life out of it by slowing my blade speed just a bit.  It's not a huge thing, but I can usually get several more minutes of cutting time out of a blade by just slowing down.

Likewise, for thicker wood I find a slower blade speed lets the sawdust get out.  You'd think it would be the other way around but it doesn't seem to be that way for me.
