Ask Steve a question. / Pegas #2
« on: March 24, 2020, 10:44:57 am »
My Pegas #2 blades snap as soon as I try and put any tension on.  I don't even get a chance to start a cut.  I am using a Pegas saw, so easing the tension is very difficult and time consuming.  I've even bought new blades in hope that I had a bad batch: no.  My #1s and #3s are not a problem and work perfectly. What could be my issue?  I think I will buy some Olson or Dutchman blades to see if it is me or the blade.

Any suggestions?

I tend to always cut the inside cuts first so I have a bigger pieced to steer.  I often cut the perimeter as if it were an interior cut also by drilling an entry hole and cutting around the pattern from that (last).  Then I can re-insert the pattern piece into the waste so I have something to brace in case I need to file or sand.  It has saved me from breaking delicate, thin areas.  I save the interior waste pieces as well for the same reason.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Pegas #2R blades
« on: March 24, 2020, 10:24:17 am »
For some strange reason I can not use Pegas #2 blades.  As soon as I put a bit of tension on the blade, even before actual cutting, it snaps.  I'm using a Pegas saw.  I'm having no problem with #1 or #3 blades.  I use 2s rarely, but it is frustrating for me.  I can accomplish the rare cuts with a #1, but I have to cut dead slow.

Is anyone else having that problem?

Hi, I am in Mount Juliet.  Nice to have a friendly neighbor.  I found that Pegas blades work best for me.  I use Pegas except for their #2 which seems to break under very slight tension.  I'm going to buy some Olson #2s for a trial.  However, I generally use Pegas #3 anyway for 99% of my cutting.

General Scroll Saw Talk / finish coatings flamble
« on: November 16, 2019, 12:44:29 pm »
I'm going to cut the sconce from Steve's newsletter today.  What finish coating would be safe for that sort of project with open flames?  I like to use tung oil, but I'm concerned it could possibly cause a fire hazard.  What about mineral oil, linseed oil or just polyurethane?
