General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: DeWalt 788 question
« on: January 17, 2019, 08:13:51 pm »
I read Steve Goods' glowing review on the Dewalt and a heads-up on a sale price of $399 from Grizzly Tools for the saw/light/table kit but I didn't act fast enough to get it at that price. I did join Grizzly's email program and got a 10% discount from them. When it went on sale for $449, I used my 10% discount and got it for just over $399. Be careful if you go that route though, the 10% discount is supposed to be for only 30 days but I think they let me slide past that date.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Blades Bending - Dewalt 788
« on: January 17, 2019, 07:51:48 pm »
I recently purchased a Dewalt 788 and while reading "The New Scroll Saw Handbook" by Patrick Spielman, I saw a picture on page 127 of the way my blades look after I tighten then release them. My blades were bending art about 30 degrees about 1/2 inch from the end. Mr. Spielman stated that this is the result of a "poorly designed suspension system." I felt that the Dewalt was a well designed machine so I investigated and found that the left pin was not screwed far enough into the blade clamp housing to protrude in to the clamping area, An extra half turn on the pin and it is seating properly now. Well, sorta. I did take the pin out and sand it a little on some fine sandpaper to make sure it had a flat end where it contacts the blade. Just thought this might help someone.
