I have had to retire from scrolling because of Macular Degeneration, but I still like to frequent this forum.  I too saved all my scraps.  When I used them, I had more but smaller scraps.  These were no longer usable for scrolling, so I put them into a box and took then to a pre-school  or kindergarden.  the little ones would glue these little scraps into shapes and objects that only their imagination knew what.  I can only imagine the excitement they had when they showed their creation to their parents.Talk about recycling!!!  I even used some of the sawdust, mixed it with craft glue and stain.  I would fill some holes that I didn't want.  Worked for me.

Years ago I had a 3 dozen batch of blades thqat didn't perform as usual.  Turned out that the blades were defective.  The manufacturer replaced the bles.  I had no further problems.  The point is that no manufacturer is immune to putting out a faulty product, but by and large they own up to their mistake and make good on replacing the blades.  Could it be, this is your situation?  Worth a call to find out.

I thought my app was not working.  I don't think Steve can afford this site much longer if no one wants to use it.  My 2 cents.

Years ago, a local pre-school/kindergarden teacher asked me about scraps that were destined to be throw away, if could have them for here students to glue together.  I made sure there were no obvious slivers and gave her all that I had.  The kids loved to create things with the scraps and glue.  Talk about recycling what I recycled.  A win-win for all.

On my Delta 40-694 clone I used a short length of a 2x4 between the arm and the table.  Worked very well for me.

Thistothat.com recommends LePage's 5 Minute Epoxy for ceramic to wood.  They don't list corian but I would think that corian and ceramic are similar.

I don't know the shape and size of the wood you are cutting, but I have several of the 4 in ratchet clamps that I use.  They give me "handles" to hold on to.  They are specially helpful for small items, although bigger clamps for bigger patterns will work too.  Just my nickels worth.   Silver Sliver

Still here, but with macular degeneration at 86 years, I am not doing much scrolling.  Happy New Year everyone.

I agree with the suggestion to wax the surface.  I too had a Porter Cable saw.  The first thing I did was wax the table.  However, be very wary of wax that has silicone in it.  Silicone can and will transfer to your wood and make it very difficult to stain evenly.  I found that Johnson's floor wax works very well.  You can find it at Walmart, Home Deopot and Lowes among other stores.  Just my penny's worth.

Dull blades will also heat up fast.  I am particularly guilty of letting my blades getting too dull before changing them.  Silver Sliver

General Scroll Saw Talk / Fair Time
« on: August 03, 2015, 09:55:10 am »
I am off to the Sioux Empire Fair for all week.  I have been demonstrating scroll sawing at this fair for almost 10 years.  I really enjoy showing the kids what it is all about and talking with the adults whether they are scrollers or not.  I usually have 200-300 handouts of all kinds of animals, but because of my deteriorating eyesight, I haven't been able to stock up.  I have 20-30 horses, dinosaurs, and other animals, so I may have to be selective as to who I give them to.  I will probably concentrate on the 3-6 year old kids.
The weather promises to be very pleasant, which is good because we will be in a non-airconditioned building.

Lookin Good.  I had hoped to cut that out but ran out of time for this Easter.  Maybe when I get back to SD.  BTW  I might be stranded down here in Florida if the Allegiant pilots go on strike.  Ho hum.  Silver Sliver

I watched a gentleman at the Florida State Fair cut large signs out of 1 inch cedar (actual thickness) using a #3 spiral.  His signs were 4 to 10 feet long.  He had to use an outfeed table.  I guess it is something you have to get used to: he was doing it so effortlessly.

On the other hand, "combine" is a bit of an oxymoron.  It also separates the kernel from the chaff/cob.
