General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Chair
« on: November 30, 2018, 07:42:38 pm »
Depending on how high your saw is, I myself use an office chair that I found here where I live. I use it at the top of its post and both of my saws are on stands that I built myself so they are built to work with my chair. I also have a shop stool with a backrest that I bought from Northwest Tool before they became available all over. I think Harbor Freight even has them now.

Also, here is an interesting thread from about 3 years ago. It might shine some light on your situation.

I'm just curious about something here. Have you or anybody else for that matter given any thought to the possibility of using or adapting parts from the Dewalt 788? They are so close in design that they just might work. Also, Pegas has designed and produced clamp kits for both the Dewalt and the Excalibur, Jet, Seyco that they might be usable also. I'm not sure which parts you are in need of but by trying the Dewalt, you might be able to get your saw back in operation. Just a suggestion.

There are many different places to find ideas for what you want. I watched a ton of youtube videos and read everything I could find. I finally made my own. Here are a couple of pics.

I put a set of the Pegas on my Ex 21 and it made a ton of difference. And, I love the way they apply the tension. I'm going to order the Ex set for my Dewalt because of the tension lever system. I should be able to set the tension on the Dewalt with their rotating lever and then leave it in that position. From that point on, it's just flipping the lever on the Pegas clamps.

I completely agree with Jscott. I watched all the videos to get an idea of what is involved. I bought the necessary grease. I already had all the required tools. I took mine apart and found right away a loose bolt on the main connecting rod. That's where my vibration was coming from. I did not find any worn bearings or sleeves so I just ended up greasing everything with the synthetic Valvoline grease. I used a pipe cleaner to apply the grease with and tried to work it well into the needle bearings. I also applied grease to the sliding wedge that is what applies the tension to the blade. It's not a hard job and once you do it, you won't have to worry about it again for a very long time. I bought my type 1 Dewalt used on Craigslist. It had never had any tender loving care prior to what I did. Luckily, I got a great used saw for very little money and now it's even "greater". I love the saw and between it and my Excalibur 21, I should never need another saw. Don't be afraid of owning a Dewalt. Grizzly has them on sale right now with stand and light for $399.99 and free shipping. GO FOR IT!

I use both the shelf liner and the full sheet shipping labels. But, if I'm in a hurry, I use the spray adhesive and blue tape. I bought a big can of the 3M77 and it works great but somewhere along the line I ended up with a small hand size of Elmer's spray adhesive that I really like. It sticks as well as the 3M but for me, it's easier to maneuver the small can and it seems to come off easier. Just my honest opinion. I also use a Harbor Freight heat gun to just warm the pattern enough to come off easily.

Believe it or not, my neighbor bought a sheet of 1/64" baltic plywood from a local source here us. Anderson International Trading has it. I couldn't believe it either until I saw it with my own eyes. I have no idea what her project was that required it to be so thin.

I would think possibly contact cement as they use it to cement laminate to wood. Just guessing here. No experience.

Here is a great way to compare the size of the signs to a couple of folks standing beneath it.

Ray, is that you with the beautiful lady?

No, it's just a picture that I found on the web for size comparison. My wife and I look much better than that. Well, she does anyway. Ha!!

Ask Steve a question. / Re: Using iSocket with DW788
« on: September 21, 2018, 04:24:43 pm »
I would plug a dual outlet into the foot switch and then plug the saw and vac into the dual outlet. That way, when you depress the foot switch, it is sending power to both the saw and the vac at the same time. I'm not sure what an iSocket is but if it is what I think it is, that's how I'd set it up. My setup is through the Fein vac that I have.

Ask Steve a question. / I can't find the answer on your blog

Hey Steve, I read the Saturday, May 6, 2017, regarding flattening wood. You said to check the next day's post but I wasn't able to locate the answer anywhere. I also tried sending you an email and it bounced back as being blocked on your end. Did I do something to make you mad? Jk. Anyway, if you can enlighten me as to what is the problem, I'd be most appreciative.

Hey Les, nice to see a familiar face. Actually, it's nice to see any face. Not much going on here.
