Another group of Great Crafts.  All look really elegant.  Have the mag.  Was kind of wanting to tackle the compound projects.  Guess the wood of choice would be the
soft pine.  Yes?  Did cut one from popular and came out terrible.  Danny  :+}

I never had good success with using the Krylon clear coat varnish.  Laquer or poly.
All said above is important for successfull completion of a project.  Danny  :+}

Hey again Tony....  You n I are on the same wave length on pricing of ornaments.
The area that you sale at is the big difference.  Have read others that live in Big Cities or states like Calif., New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Florida etc. that are able to sell at what the crafts are really worth. Been doing this same craft show for this will be my 4th year and Ornaments sell real, real well in mid November.  The time I spend in cutting, sanding, finishing, varnishing etc. I know I sell at a loss, but cutting 5 at a time and using the 1/8BB I figure at $3 to $4 each is OK to me.  Last year I had 150 and sold every one and pocketed over $300 just for them.  Anyway....  Danny  :+}

Everything above is in my thoughts.  Just Amazing....   Is there a story behind how you got started into using a hand held saw for fretwork?  Would Love to hear.

Hi Dave....  Can't offer you any concrete way to fix it yourself (unless you are real good with the electrical etc.)  Know there are a sort of contact area inside the speed control knob.  Bet you were really surprised the very first time you were cutting away on a project and the saw sped up.  Bout as bad as when a blade breaks. LOL Danny

Hehe....You made a funny....  Hehe....  Seriously of course Practice does get a person to the confident level of not worrying about any type of inside cuts.  I have learned that running the saw at a slower speed will cause the fragile points to break more easily.  Bout 3/4 speed to me is good.  Of course like I have been professing the
FD=UR #1 blade being so small will let you follow any line more easily.  Good Luck and always Enjoy....  Danny  :+}

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Which Ornaments Sell Best?
« on: September 27, 2012, 03:01:44 pm »
Gotta throw in my 2 cents worth....  Last 2 years at the Only craft show I do I have had the Good Luck to sell almost all the ornaments I take.  Assortment is important.
Some spray painted and some just the oil/varnish.  Simple circle with one word inside like NOEL I sold for @2.00....  Ones with a little more cutting involved I sold for $3.00.
Didn't have any like I will this year thats way more complicated and time consuming than said above.  I will start off asking $5.00.  Had 147 various colors, sizes and shapes last year and sold a lil over $200.00.  Most all were a split between 1/8 bb
and Lowes 1/4" birch ply. and good ole 1/4" Pine.  Anyway I choose not to spend so much monies on the good hard wood as I would be forced to charge a higher price.
I think down here (there) in Tennessee there are a lot of peoples that just don't have that extra buck to throw away.  Danny  :+}

Oh yea....  Forgot to mention the most important thing (my 2 cents worth).
                Unless a INSIDE cut is mostly large I WILL ALWAYS USE the FD-UR#1
                BLADE....  I feel very comfortable cutting (BALTIC BIRCH PLY) up to
                 3/4" this way.  Have had very, very good luck and I surprise myself
                 by how easy it is to follow any type of line.  Outside areas are mostly
                 FD-UR #3 OR #5....  Only Flying Dutchman Blades.  Danny  :+}

Hey Newfie....  Yepper.  Done been there also....BUT....  As of the past month or so I have decided on studying the over-all pattern.  Find the more delicate areas and either mark them or remember.  When I get to one of them I may start my entry from two directions.  I also have started the cut of the delicate areas at the part that I think might be apt to break.  Finish the cut into a more solid area.  Have completed many Ornaments that have lots of delicate areas and so far so good.  Yea!  Danny  :+}

The Coffee Shop / Words to Ponder.... :+}
« on: September 24, 2012, 03:12:53 pm »
This was written by a very dear childhood friend of mine.  I read it and reflect on
some of my recent feelings.  Almost parallel to his.  Time is Precious.  Danny  :+}

We?ve been told many times that life is like a race, the older one gets the more I don?t know if that is a proper description of life. I look at it as if time is the race. Life is the anti-race.

When we are young, things move at such a slow pace. When we are young, time means nothing, we have all the time in the world. We can waste it by doing nothing, by getting in trouble or by being away from ones family. One can not waste what one has so much of, or at least that is what we think.

I don?t really know when I became aware of how precious time was, but I believe it was during a personal crisis situation. I would think it was the time I lost my children, not by death, but by separation. Some of you know what that feels like while others my say it came during a crisis of health or finance. It really does not matter when actually, but we are all in it now with both feet.

We may have all the money we need, the health we want and the family to bond with, but we are all aware of the one thing, money, or power can not grant us???..time.

We should realize it is a waste of such a precious commodity to spend it on being anger, being mad, self-pride, or having an unforgiving nature. Who cares who says "I?m sorry first, or I love you? We don?t need to take the time to keep score of how many times one have to do dishes or cooked dinner or walked the dogs? When you are down to that last second, one will give anything to have enough time to walk those precious loving pets. Or cook one more meal for your family or tell your child or mate how much you love them.

Time, what a valued gift the Lord has given us. Only he knows how much is in our account. Have we wasted it? Or have we spent it well.

I can look back as a youth when a day would last forever, a week was an eternity. Now a day is but a blink of an eye, to put off something until tomorrow is to gamble with your most precious asset.

Get on the phone and tell that someone you are sorry, ask for their forgiveness. Tell them you love them. Use your time well. Don?t waste it on things that make no difference. Don?t associate with people who do not make you happy. Love without conditions, and play the game with honor and to the last breath.

The journey is hard and time is short, So,I for one will carry my wounded, but I will not wait for the stragglers.
