Thanks for all the great information.  I had a feeling the humidity might be the culprit but wanted some other experienced users input. I too have used BLO uncut with great results. I like the lemon oil also. It is great if  you need something done fast.  It does have to be covered completely tho.  Each finish has it + and -.  Again thanks for the great info..

General Scroll Saw Talk / Boiled Linseed Oil- Mineral Spirits Problem
« on: August 02, 2012, 10:54:19 pm »
recently started using a 50/50 mix of boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits for some finishing.  The mineral spirits is low odor. The pieces I am finishing are small ornaments so I give them a quick dip, then drain and after about 10 or so minuets wipe off all the excess. I then leave them for 24 hours. The last two batches I sprayed with clear lacquer.  The lacquer dries after about 10- 15 minutes. For some unknown reason, the pieces stay sticky for a few days( 5-6 days. When I say sticky, not so bad that they will stick to your finger but enough to be able to feel it. Anything I need to change or do.  This is my first try at the BLO mix and so far I am not happy with it.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Vibration on Wood Floor
« on: August 02, 2012, 11:15:07 am »
When I bought my first scroll saw, the stand that came with it was really bad.  So bad that I almost gave up the saw due to vibration and discomfort while sawing.  I finally found a site that had a plan for a custom table (Steve's Site) but that was before I was aware of the scope of his blog. Bottom line -  I built the table with a couple of modifications and suddenly scrolling was much more fun.  The vibration was greatly reduced and I made mine so I could sit in a regular dining table chair. I used several until I found the one that was best for me and then measured the height of the seat.  I covered the table top with a rubber backed piece of indoor outdoor carpet. My table sits on a wood floor.  My shop is a pre made shed that was delivered and set on site. Nothing special.  I have since upgraded to a Dewalt saw and I did the nickel test a couple of weeks ago and it passed!  The table workes great for me.

You also might want to make sure you are cutting a true 45.  Check at 0  or 90 degrees then see if your 5 is a true 45. I recently bought a digital protractor and it works great. I check it aganist several different rules and squares.

I use packing tape (dollar store) for most pieces  and double sided tape (dollar store again). I put 2 ,3 or 4 pieces of double sided depending on the size and then cover the top with clear tape, making sure to wrap around the edges. If the project has many small frets, I use the blue tape first.  Has anyone tried the green tape?  I like the idea of using a throw away top piece!!!! Sometimes my patience also runneth thin!

I have found 4 and 6 inch key chains ( ball chain with connectors) on E-bay for a very reasonable pirce.  I bought 100 of each at different times.  Shipping was free for me but can't tell you what it may be for you.  Very satisfied with the service and the product.
