I think Sheoak was a name given by the Australians when it was grown there, it is also know as laceoak as some parts of the tree has a lace like patter through it, I had some of the tree when it was given to me but it is all gone

Went to the public library the other day for some pattern books on scroll sawing and all they had out of 100,000 plus books in the whole of wellington were 2 and I had to order them in so when I eventually got them they were years old and of not much use, I have since ordered 2 from Fishpond and they should be here soon

No Russ the wood is fairly soft, the next piece this thicker at 1 1/2" and cutting Ok as well

Some lidded boxes I made yesterday for an order they are from 2" to 3 1/2 high and a bout 2" in diam. the wood I used was silver beech, she -oak, and rimu, First I have done for 8 months and they didn't turn out too bad

Here are some of the natural edge blanks I cut the other day, I put them on the lathe to size then then sanded them ready for cutting, they are from 9 1/2 " diam. and 1" thick all Cypress

yes dg there is 50 in the club and only 8 turned up \, that was disappointing, but the few that came spent $170 so that wasn't so bad, they were only here for a 1/2 hour, but I still had to set up and take down

You got it Dan when things are slow it is a good time to experiment and look for new things to make, It is slow in our part of the world as well but my sales numbers are about the same but $$ value is down so that shows me people are coming back but are spending less, hang in there Dav and tighten your belt sales will come back

They were a conifer I cut some time ago dry, wood may be a bit soft but will be good practice, I have some other small loge must pull them out, problem chain sawing them they are thick and have to be resizes that is why I put them on the lathe will post a pic when ready to cut
