General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Lemon oil
« on: February 01, 2011, 01:04:36 pm »
Thanks dave.  I'll have to use 2 methods one for my stand up puzzles as I do not put a clear coat on them, and fretwork can use the lemon oil on them with the clear coat over it.

Thanks John for taking the time to do that.  In the future seal the end grain with shellac first and it will help for a more uniform staining.  Just a tip I learned.

thanks all, I speeded up the saw, I was using the clear tape, and I changed my expections to how long it would take to make each cut.

I also did four cuts vs. the two to make the puzzle a little hard.

John or as you are now known TIA... ::)   Can you share a picture of your modified and original puzzles?  I'd like to see your end product.

I already use avast.  Thanks for the tips. I did some more research and decided against the download.  I found several discussions talking about malware and a trojan so no sense taking a chance.

I do use oil.  Lemon Oil and or Danish Oil on all my puzzles and other projects.
I do not clear coat my puzzles.  I do usually clear coat my other projects though after I oil them like fretwork and names.  Some I do not oil at all just clear coat depends on the grain of the wood and how it speaks to me.

Paul cut the white right?  The letters will have floaters otherwise, right?

Saran wrap looks like crap.  Seal a meal costs 3-4 times as much as shrink wrap.  I use shrink wrap all the time and just poke 1-2 holes in inconspicuous places and have never had a sweating problem.

I got a shrink wrap machine off e-bay.

I get my shrink wrap here.
