General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: New 788 problem
« on: August 29, 2012, 11:48:25 am »
Other than tension, the first thing I would check is to make sure the blade is in with the cut on the down stroke. I have a 788 and with these bad eyes I have done that ( more than once)  and totally unable to follow any kind of line.

Danny

I am working in the same direction. I design and cut a lot of my own pieces. Nothing elaborate. I use Corel also and find it easy to learn for scroll saw pattern design but there is a lot to that software that I do not use or understand. The three pieces I posted yesterday were done with Core. The fire ornament was a modification of a full fire plaque. Best way is to just jump in and start designing. Watch all of Steve's videos and you will be well up on the learning curve. I will be glad to help anytime but I do believe if you post a question here, the answers will be many.

If money were no object  Get one of every kind and have fun finding out which is best. Of course as to others said, the best for me may just leave a "best" for someone else.

Very nice.  and to think you started the pattern, got a few tweaks and then you cut it. Bet the piece is one you will not forget. Gotta love this forum.

I made several of  these and  showed one to my wife. Told here it was for her if she wanted it. She loved it but didn't want it due to absolutely no place to put it. My Mother is a crocheter. We have 15 afghans. Tried to give some to the girls, but they also have way too many. My wife toldme I was becoming my mother except in wood!

Cut this one for our Daughter in Calif. She lost the dog recently. I have cut several of  these and they are always received with gratitude, ( and usually a few tears even from the tough guys)

I cut several of these this week. The fireman here appreciate them. So far I have given them away but this batch is for a show in October.

I also use the 5/32 oak ply also.  It is about he best thing going locally. Sometime It will have a void, and of course it will be the worst possible place. Ah another piece of designer firewood. Funny though here the Blue store usually carries    what amounts to 1/4 and 3/4 thick and the Orange store carries the 1/2 inch. Also I bought a sheet of the 1/2 inch earlier this year for about $26 and 2 weeks ago the same sheet cost $49.   I cut a bunch of 3-6 piece puzzles from the half inch. The puzzles are around 5 X 7 inches. Some less depending on the shape. I finish them with a bees wax paste and nothing else.  I sell them for $5 and they do well.  I do not use very much of the 3/4 thick.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Ornament Prices

Tony,

I don't know about others, but when I use lemon oil It tends to bleed for a long time unless I put on a top coat of something.  I have the stains on of my table covers to prove it.

I agree with Dan, you prices seem to be fair. I use the same prices on my ornaments. Last year went to an event called Christmas on the Town.  Took about 100 ornaments and came back with the same number :(.  Did another show with the same ornaments and did better. Did a sale in July, took the ornaments but did not display. Someone asked and I sold 6 there. So it is anyone's guess as to what and when they will sell. I cut a lot of small crosses the 4' tall range and they do a lot better in my area. Good luck with your sale.

I think it was at the Blue Store last week, they had a new ( to  me)  sheet of ply called Blonde Wood Looked like it could have been poplar but the clerk was as uninformed as me!

I am with you Termite, I had to have help for that too.  Had 4 of us and it made for easy work. Getting the bolts in the holes was another story though!
