General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: New DeWalt 788 came yesterday! :)

Congratulations on the new saw, I've got the same one and love it. I have a spring and chain going to the floor joist above my saw. Lift the arm, it stays, lower the arm, it stays. The parts were just laying around in my garage so cost was $0.

That's a heck of a "skip tooth" blade!   ;D

I like the bigger blades for cutting 2x4's,  FD-SR No.12's  unless you've got some tight corners to cut.

I have the DW788 Type 2. I've had it for 4 yrs. with lots of use and have had no trouble with it. I haven't tried  an EX-21 but I hear nothing but good things about them and the tilting head is a big plus if you are going to cut out bowls or anything else that needs angle cuts. If you can afford it, I'd suggest the EX-21.

My guess is that the bushings have worn into the metal side brackets and that is what is catching. Try rocking the top arm sideways while trying to pull it out of the bracket. You will probably need to use some force.

That's the same thing I use, works great. With coarse grit it's almost a power carver!

Great job, how do you sand your bowls?

Scott, I use the Guinevere Sanding System.  For the rough shaping and sanding I use the Wand.  It really does a great job!

I started out with the mini chuck others have used but didn't like the run out. I ended up switching to the Dremel drill press.
