I use an air brush.  You can get an inexpensive starter kit from Hobby Lobby with can air to start with to see how you like or do not like.  I don't have any problems with runs from the air brush like I do with comerical can paint.

Check out Michael's.  They have a lot of plywood and some soft woods in their wood craft section.  Jeff44

Very nice work.  Where did you find the pattern?  I cut Celetic Crosses out of Teak, and this pattern would look great.  Jeff44

I can understand your pain.  I have loved and lost a family pet, however I didn't truly lose them.  I had them cremated and have their ashes on my mantle, so they are realy still with me.  Jeff

I have done it with Christmas Ornaments.  You just have to be very careful and not touch the wood with your hand.  jeff44

Check out Harbor Freight.  I have their 9 in band saw and it works great for small work.  It does not have a fence, or resawing capabilities.  Jeff

I have  the Home Depot Rigid combination bench top belt and oscilating sander.  It is in your price range and you get two tools for the price of one.  Like most I use the oscillationg sander the most.

I am sorry to hear of your accident, things do sometime happen to the best of us.  I had a run in withmy table saw, but I only lost a small part of my thumb.  It makes you very aware of what you are doing and how fast things happen.  Hope you recover quickly.  Jeff44
