I always wondered about the branding irons.  Especially the electric ones for better consistency.  I have heard it's easy to screw up the brand though with either too dark or too light a mark.  My last names Murphy, so I am not optimistic about my consistency on different woods.  It would be just my luck to complete a project I could be proud of and then screw up the signature.

Good order!  Love that purpleheart, I have a plank in my rafters about 14 inches wide.

Personally the first thing I do is plug in my IPOD and choose from a number of playlists, all country of course.  Most of the year I can leave the doors open with a fan running.  When it is too hot I have a window banger A/C hanging in the window.  When it is too cold (not often here) I plug in a pair of industrial halogen lights which boosts both the temperature and the light levels.  My shop is 10 by 17 so it doesn't take much heating or cooling to make a difference.  I go in when I need a drink.  No where safe to put a glass out there, and it would gather sawdust or shavings anyway.

Best of luck to all you guys who are suffering right now.  Been there and done that.  The best thing I can tell you is that I re-invented myself and worked my way back up again.  If I did it, then you can to.  Wish there was someway to help.

I often use a custom made stamp, inked with india ink instead of the normal stuff.  It seems to tolerate the solvents in modern finishes better.

maybe, it depends on how large the spots are.  When spraying either lacquer or shellac you cna get what is called a blush.  A blush results when you get too heavy a coat. Particularly on a humid day.  It will sometimes dissappear after a day or two as the humidity bleeds out.  By the way, it really isn't necessary to sand or rub with wool between coats of lacquer as the solvent in the new coat will partially dissolve the surface of the prior coat.  My favorite finish with either lacquer or shellac is multiple coats and when thoroughly dried rub with 0000 steel wool dipped in paste wax.  You get a very even finish, and a soft feel to the finish.

Any guy who is married knows he is going to eventually lose that battle.  It's all a matter of supply and demand.  He can demand all he wants, but she has the critical supply.

Generally speaking I think the words "customer service" have been nullified and should be removed from the dictionary.  It is truly rare to find it these days.  One notable exception here is Mike with his FD blades.  Prompt, courteous, and customer oriented.

For years I have been saying that they should have to take two laws off the books every time they add a new one.  Now they should have to remove two tax laws for every one they add as well.  Maybe they should oust two politicians for every one we elect!

I heard there is a park in Alaska where they have both black bears and grizzlies.  Due to the danger of the grizzlies they hand out pepper spray and whistles to scare them away.  They recommend keeping a sharp eye out for bear scat so you know what type of bears are in your vicinity.  The scat from the black bears is full of berries and nuts.  The scat from the Grizzlies is full of whistles and pepper spray.
