Sometimes the point of a pen/pencil or scribe/awl is all that is needed to break any fuzzy splinters off.

While you are searching Steve's blog for patterns, you might notice the video section too. He has some "beginner" videos that will help you tremendously!!

$952.00 must be the manufacturers suggested retail price. I don't know of anyone who ever paid that much for a De Walt saw. If they regularly sold for that price, I wouldn't own one (and I do own one). I think I paid around $500.00 for mine with the stand and light about 3 years ago at Grizzly's in Springfield Mo.

Sorry to hear about your fall.   :(  That's a bummer! But by the same token, you don't use a scroll saw with your foot!  ::) Unless you have a deadmans foot switch but, even then you can move the switch to the other foot.  ;D
Hope you feel better soon.  ;)

Pete!

Stay INSIDE the lines and you will be much better off! Just like when you were using your 'coloring book' in kindergarten!

My dad used to say "There is no such thing as 'THE GOOD OLD DAYS', I've never had it better than I have it today."
Ya kinda have to think about that for awhile.  ;)

That's a fact Jack!!

More people need to read and heed those words. (Especially my wife and my son.)

You could also try an old coloring book. There used to be a lot of cartoon style coloring books for younger kids around.
Use a page from the "old days".  ;D

Ask Steve a question. / Re: Concentric Vase entry holes
« on: January 02, 2012, 08:43:02 pm »
I agree, you need a smaller drill bit. I use #54 or #56 numbered drills. It just needs to be large enough for the blade to go through. Tilting the table on the drill press to the same angle as the table on the saw is a must also.
That being said, on the last vase that I posted (Cherry Vase) on the brag section, I cut the rings from the outside in and made a diagonal cut into the next line to the inside and then glued the ends together before stacking them. No holes to be drilled! Unfortunately there is still a lot of sanding to be done. The walls on that vase are approximately 1/4" thick by the time I was finished.

Here is another clock that requires all scrolling. I designed the pattern myself and would be glad to share it but, I'll have to use snail-mail as it is not in my computer. Just enlarge the picture and trace it. ;D
I used 3/4" birch plywood on this one.

I have made a lot of clocks over the years of all sizes and shapes but, this is the biggest one that I've made. It requires more wood working than a scroll saw and may not be your cup of tea but it might give you an idea or two.
It is called the "Country Curio Clock" and comes from plans I found on line. Actually, I've mad 6 or 7 of them for gifts.
I cut the face from birch plywood instead of using the plans. And there is some scrolling on the frame. I'll try to remember where I found the plans if you are interested.
