I'd take the on/off switch off as you have already done and spray it with electrical contact cleaner.
After the cleaner has had a minute or two to evaporate, put the switch back on and go through the speeds trying to run it slow, medium and fast.
Good luck and God Bless! Spirithorse

Ask Steve a question. / Re: Getting glue residue off/Pattern transfer
« on: December 14, 2013, 09:10:18 pm »
Greetings!
Rather than apply the glue directly to the wood, I always put Blue Painter's Tape on the wood and then glue the pattern to the Blue Painter's Tape. Blue tape (it comes in a variety of colors which denote how tacky it will adhere to the surface) seems to be the best because it peels off very easily and does NOT leave the residue that has to be cleaned off of the wood.

It may sound like an added expense but, when you consider the cost of mineral spirits or just the cost of sanding with some form of electric sander, I think you are still money ahead and done in
a matter of seconds.

Good point, Danny!

I actually bought one Craftsman scroll saw and it vibrated so badly I took it back and
replaced it with another. Same model, size, etc but, the second one was not as bad
out of the box.
This one does vibrate more than a more expensive saw but, I used a piece of old carpet
under it and clamped it to my work table and it is definitely capable of decent cuttings.
A lot of people also suggest adding weight to the bottom of the table like a bag of sand
but, I have never tried that.

Good luck, enjoy the hobby, and God Bless! Spirithorse

Hi, agooday88,
I tried the search engine on this forum and could not find the word blocks you referenced.
Could you send a link, please, so that I can view the idea you were talking about?

Beautiful work, Judy,
I'd have been as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs if I had to send a
scroll saw cutting to Sheila but, you did splendidly!

If the pattern is too large for the scanner, you can scan part of the image and then
scan the next section, making sure they over-lap so you can tape the sections back together
to complete the whole pattern.

Cute test.
I was 63% Left Brained.
I thought I was more intuitive and creative than the 37% shown in the test.
Oh, well, at least they say I am logical.

Thanks for the reply, Roger,
I have to admit that I am still a bit lost but, your description did give me an idea of
how I could accomplish this. I'd probably either have to use a band saw or several layers cut and glued back together if I used the scroll saw but, I now have an idea that should work.

Nice work, Roger,
Can you explain how you cut the sliding dove-tails on the scroll saw, please?
Maybe I can learn something! LOL
Thanks and God Bless! Spirithorse
