Going to classes gives you confidence in what you are doing in any craft some times you may think you have not learned a lot but you will improve as time goes on, take a note book and rite notes, ask all the questions you can and the most important thing enjoy your self

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Another Question - Power Tools

Re sawing means to re saw lumber that has all ready been cut to a specific size, like cutting 2x4 to 1x4.
I have a lot of demo. timber given to me and that has to be re sawed to the size I require, then I plane it to the exact thickness

Becky if you are going to cut wood you need a bench saw and you need a planer this will give you boards to the thickness that you need and the size, most home handy person tools now are compact and easy to store, so it is up to you on what you choose

Some switches can be dismantled and cleaned, I had one on a lathe I used to own and had to clean it out on a regular basis, take it out and have a look

General Scroll Saw Talk / Old

And not so old, these are a couple of saws on display at the wood-fest show I went to while on holiday the first is a treadle machine in excellent condition and the owner said he used it most of the time for his projects, he is a very accomplished scroller and his work is magnificent, the other is a pedal power machine converted from an old Delta it seems to work OK but is more of a conversation point than being practical.
