Wish I could do that! :o

You can do this.  It is not real hard to do at all.  Just takes a little practice is all.  There is a book that has been put out by Carole Rothman called Wooden Bowls from the Scroll Saw here is a link to it on Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Wooden-Bowls-Scroll-Easy---Make/dp/1565234332/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1419113820&sr=1-1&keywords=wooden+bowls+from+the+scroll+saw.  The book gives you good instruction on making bowls from the very simple to the more complex.  It is a good book for your scrolling library.

Paul the Turkey is a Diana Thompson pattern from back in the 90's from her book 3d patterns for the scroll saw published by Fox Chapel Publishing.  The reigndeer pattern is from an ebook of patterns from this website http://www.unclejohns.com/scroll/default.htm

Brag Forum / Spalted Maple Oval Bowl
« on: December 18, 2014, 11:19:24 pm »
I had a small piece of spalted maple ( 4 x 7 x 3/4 ) left over from another project.  I decided to make a bowl from it.  The bowl is 3 3/4 inches wide x 6 1/2 long and 3 inches tall.  The wall thickness started off at 1/4 inch and is more like 3/16 inch thick now.  I sealed the bowl with tung oil and then top coated it with shellac.

Most of what you will find in the big box stores will be .091 inches thick or thinner.  To get .25 you will have to go to someplace like this -  http://www.ebay.com/bhp/1-4-lexan.  Lexan or even Acrylic at that thickness is not cheap.  I saw one link to a site that carries product that was inches thick and they were very proud of their product.  Expect to shell out a fair amount for it at 1/4 of an inch.

I usually do one of 2 things.  I put a DW and a date on it someplace or if the spot is big enough I have a branding iron that I got for my last birthday and I brand my work.  I generally also put a small card that tells the new owner what wood was used, the pattern designer ( if not me ) and the particulars of the piece.
