Pattern Requests. / Re: Would this be a copyright pic
« on: January 21, 2014, 01:00:02 am »
Too bad I didn't see the pic to know if I could make it an intarsia pattern before it was
pulled. Send a pic to spirithorse55@hotmail.com and I'll let you know if I think I am capable.

Thanks to those who are keeping Steve's site safe and protecting everybody's interests

Intarsia / Re: Team Calf Ropers

Thanks for the reply, Linda,
Please keep me advised if you publish this piece.
Not really a lot of people into Calf Roping in this neck of the woods but,
I really like the pattern.
Perhaps one of the publications would consider a scaled down version with the
Calf, Horses, and Riders with-out the large back-ground. You could still show your completed version for the full effect.

Hi, Danny,
Nice Work!
There are four free cross patterns by Jay Hammerle on www.scrollsawer.com if you are a member of that forum and one by Bobby Riggs that you probably already have.
Also, there are some cross patterns from The Winfield Collection for sale for about $7.00 including shipping on eBay.

Great patterns and great info given to help out.
Thanks for helping the members of the forum.

Dave, one other suggestion I can give you in regards to making your own patterns is to experiment
with the program you are using. For example, take your photo that you have already started with
and look at the difference you get if you use the steps you have taken with the image size set at
72 dpi  and then take the same steps with the image size set at 300 dpi.
Probably quite a noticible change. Furthermore, begin changing the contrast settings to see if you can make the image more to your liking.
I definitely cannot make any improvements to the patterns already given to you! Ray and Joleet have done great jobs and much faster than I could!

Well done!
One easily over-looked concern when you first begin scrolling is the type of blades you
choose. For thick wood, I think you should lean toward a blade with FEWER teeth per inch.
That may sound counter-productive but, the reasoning is, the space between the teeth allows
time for the blade to remove the wood chips from the material.
Check a chart that recommends the correct blade for the material being cut and then just
let the blade do the work. Don't force it.
When using thin stock such as 1/8" Baltic Birch (which seems to be the preferred material for
fretwork), it is much easier to stack the sheets together and cut 3 or 4 of the same pattern
at the same time. The thicker wood resulting from stacking the thin sheets makes it MUCH easier
to cut without breaking the thin 1/8" material and you have more copies of your project for the
amount of time at the saw.
You did a fine job! Thanks for sharing and God Bless! Spirithorse

The Coffee Shop / Re: Does Anyone use a Home "Air Purifier" ?
« on: December 29, 2013, 05:42:45 pm »
Hi, Danny,
We have one in our home because I smoke.
To be honest, I notice very little difference and I doubt this unit is really moving
a very large amount of Cubic Foot per Minute but, when you open it up to clean
it, you can really see the discoloration on the plates inside so, it is removing some
smoke and dust particles.
We used to have a humidifier for the winter months and it really did a good job of
keeping the humidity level good in the house and stopped static cling. It finally quit working
and we never replaced it.
Good luck in making a decision.
