Dan!  They sell these things at Walgreen's called 'reading glasses'!

My eye Dr. just prescribed some for me last week! Seems I was using the wrong strength and now everything is much 'clearer' IF I keep the darn sawdust off!

~~~GB~~~
My eye Dr said go to the dollar store and pick up 1/2 dozen and leave em all over your shop.  Great advice.  I always have a pair handy.  Only $1.00 a pair and if break em or scratch em I toss em.  I found out he has a shop as well.  He does ceramics though.
Julie is the seyco light also the magnifier?  If so Do you find the vibration from the saw to be distracting when looking through the lens?  I had a magnifier I used for my dewalt but the slight vibration was a big distraction to me.
GB,
You made a great choice.  I love the variable speed and soft start.
Gabby,
It's okay for some backers.  It has a tendency to chip really bad and has voids in it.  Not really good for scrolling.
General Scroll Saw Talk / Updated info on e-mail Rug Buddies.
« on: April 07, 2011, 12:54:15 pm »
Recently Steve was kind enough to send us a booklet with the "Rug Buddies" in it.  This is a great PDF of some whimsical toys.  I read his blog entry and double checked it.  It says use standard 2x4 for making these.  However that is an error.  If you print out the rug buddies they require 2x6 unless you re-size the toys to be smaller.
I contacted John ( actually Cynthia replied as John was out) at toy press to make certain of this and he confirms those toys do require 2x6 not 2x4.
Just thought you would like to know before you pick up a couple of 2x4's.  I'm making some today.
General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Cedar and Poplar
« on: April 06, 2011, 10:47:06 am »
Poplar is ideal for kids toys and puzzles, not too hard to cut but more sturdy than pine and won't break as easily.  Paints very well as it is tighter grain.  Cedar can be used for almost anything outdoors (western red cedar that is)  not real strong but easily cut.
