Sorry I can't give much info about Paint.net but, Photoshop has that feature.
It is listed under a category called PATTERN next to the Background color choices.
Maybe there is something in Paint that just doesn't have a label you would think
applied.
Good luck and God Bless!

Congratulations! Good investment.
Also, you can hook a hose up from your dust collector to a 55 gallon drum or similar to
allow any big parts that get sucked up to drop into the barrel instead of going through
the impeller of your dust collector.
I like that set up primarily because I have the second port collecting dust from a
belt sander and sometimes intarsia pieces can get away from me.

He does seem extremely smart with the tools.
I watched another video in which he modified a router table to use as a
CNC machine and he mentioned the safety factors he built into it.

Hi, Russ,
The Compound Cut nameplates pattern by John Polhemus uses the same principle you spoke of when you said, "Using the Keychain Pattern Maker you would have to create the first pattern, hit enter and create the second one on the same piece of paper. Then cut them out and glue to the top and side of the blank you are using, following along the directions/video for the 3D Key Chain Racer pattern." The names he used were Lucy Parks (4 letters and 5 letters) and Jemmott Harris (7 letters and 6 letters respectively) and there is also the difference in the width of the letters if you compare the letter 'M' and the letter 'I'. They do not have to be the same length. They are just centered on the length of wood stock without regard to how they align with the first name and the last name.
The font used for Mr. Polhemus' pattern is UMBRA but, I do not know what size font. He can call this a pattern because the letters are centered in 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" squares to be taped to your stock.
Steve's keychain pattern maker suggests using font size 105 to 120 BUT, that is a different font so
you would have to adjust for the font you are using when you type out your names if you are just using Word Pad or something similar.
Sorry this was so long winded but, I wanted to be accurate and detailed.

This link to a video made by Steve Good should help
demonstrate the 3D Key Chain pattern cutting project.
The same principle for 3D desk name plates.

Pattern Requests. / Re: Gray shading on Steve's patterns

I'm not sure if I am understanding your question correctly but, when you make
your patterns, what-ever program you are using should have an option for
the color you use.
If you are printing Steve's patterns, they should automatically print out in the
color he has used provided you do not make any changes to the print settings.
Good luck and God Bless! Spirithorse

Hi, Shaun,
You may have gotten more replies if you posted to General Scroll Saw Talk.
I am not Steve but, I'll try to give you some basic info on cutting portraits.
Most of the scrollers begin in the center and work out so they don't cause damage to
the areas they already cut as they progress.
Some patterns are easier to cut by cutting the most delicate areas first so that there
is still a lot of surrounding wood for support as you cut.
Also along those lines, if some areas are delicate and you have concerns that they may
get broken before you finish the project, you can tape the areas you cut out back into
their original position to support that area.
Be sure to let us see some photos of your work.
Good Luck and God Bless! Spirithorse

Pattern Requests. / Re: First pattern with text
« on: February 02, 2014, 09:08:01 pm »
You will have to use a font for the text that can be scrolled so that
the inside of the letters like "D' and numerals like '9' do not fall out.
