Karl, thought I would try something like your cutting - it's a great idea.  What did you put behind the cutouts to give the dark contrast?

Thanks,

The Coffee Shop / Don't wash your hair in the shower
« on: March 31, 2017, 10:02:32 am »
So glad I read this. Very informative.

DO NOT wash your hair in the shower!!
It's so good to finally get a health warning that is ...useful!!!

IT INVOLVES THE SHAMPOO WHEN IT RUNS DOWN YOUR BODY WHEN YOU SHOWER WITH IT.

WARNING TO US ALL!!!

Shampoo Warning!

I don't know WHY I didn't figure this out sooner!

I use shampoo in the shower!

When I wash my hair, the shampoo runs down my whole body, and printed very clearly on the shampoo label is this warning, "FOR EXTRA BODY AND VOLUME."

No wonder I have been gaining weight!

Well! I got rid of that shampoo and I am going to start showering with Dawn Dishwashing Soap.

It's label reads, "DISSOLVES FAT THAT IS OTHERWISE DIFFICULT TO REMOVE."
Problem solved! If I don't answer the phone, I'll be in the shower!

crusty, I was going to suggest Namespro  http://www.namespro.ca/  but I see you are in Florida.  I use it (but have yet to get a web site up) as my domain name registrar.  $13/year for a ".ca" domain.

I also noticed that a lot of new top level domain names are available.  http://www.namespro.ca/NewgTLDsearch.asp?sID=3F5C5CBD55104CB8A6F1B4E3EB6B3B25  Might be interesting to register a site as abcdef.expert

Good looking stand.  Those old tractor seats are sure comfortable so you will be there for hours.

Can you raise and lower the seat?  It looks like the table tilt can be adjusted.  Am I right?

Ask Steve a question. / Re: Picture in Post

Perhaps your picture is too large.  A quick search of the forum for image size came up with this post.  http://www.stevedgood.com/community/index.php?topic=14707.msg139110#msg139110

To post a larger image, many people use use an on-line image hosting service.  Sorry I can't think of any at the moment but they are out there, just do a search.

Hope this helps,
Jim

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Losing my grip

I know most people don't like gloves in the shop but for scroll saw work the snug rubber gloves - like doctor's gloves, might improve your grip on the wood.

The Sketchfab presentation works very well in my browser (Firefox) but clicking on the start icon (right facing arrow in the image) in email (Thunderbird) does nothing. I did notice that it is not possible to view the piece from directly above or directly below but that is probably a limitation of the program, and isn't something we really need anyway.   :)

It is a very effective way to show off your work.

Ask Steve a question. / Re: Pegboard
« on: January 14, 2017, 10:07:07 am »
Not sure what you mean by a pegboard finishing station.  Do you mean something to hold pieces up off the bench while a finish is applied?

If that's what you are looking for, there are lots of options.  One possibility would be to glue golf tees into the holes of pegboard. The points of the tees then support the work.  Driving finishing nails through a board would give the same effect.  Lee Valley http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=57821&cat=1,120,43456,43390,57821 has painters pyramids that do the same thing.

Hope this helps.

Don't know about Corel draw for patterns but a lot of people on this forum use Gimp and Inskscape - both are free programs and there are tutorials and help articles on this and other forums.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

I presume you are having trouble when you click on the link on Steve's blog page.  Not sure why you are having a problem but it works for me.

What is the error message?

Well, it wasn't as bad as I had feared.  Washing the glue off was fairly effective and the wood didn't warp.  The palm sander and fine paper got the last of the glue off then finished it with lemon oil and satin spray.

I got lucky, I was afraid I would have to re-cut it.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Aw, Sugar Plums!!
« on: December 19, 2016, 06:34:33 pm »
I cut Steve's "Life Without Music Would B flat" out of 1/8" baltic birch and planned to glue it onto a background of dark wood.  Got the pattern and the background cut and put glue on the BB.  Was just about to put the cutting on the background when I realized I put the glue on the FRONT side.

Wiped off as much glue as I could and then used a wet towel to try to get the rest off.  I know I didn't get it all off.  It is now sitting under weights hoping it will dry flat, and not delaminate.  Then I will try sanding the front smooth but don't know how well that will work.

Any suggestions on how to salvage it?  (Telling me to put the glue on the back side will not be appreciated.   ;D ;D ;D ;D )
