I've used purpleheart and lacewood both. Like any hardwood, the blade depends on the thickness of the wood and the intricacy of the pattern. Cdrover is correct about the purpleheart burning. It is similar to cherry that way. You also need to use care not to heat it too much when sanding or the wood will change color. Lacewood makes gorgeous free standing animal puzzles! The woods are expensive, but you don't use that much for most scrolling.

Russ, I read this message first and then found the first. I am APPALLED! I'm glad to hear he is improving, but there should be absolutely no tolerance for that type of bs. Please let him know that all of us are proud of him through his father and are ashamed of what was allowed to happen to him.

Gabby I have never had a problem with IE as it is installed with the OS. However I do not recommend either upgrading it, or using it. Just think of it this way. If you are a hacker and want to cause problems, you go after the biggest, most used target on the horizon. That is invariably Microsoft. I personally prefer Chrome, but used Firefox for a long time also. my 2 cents worth!

Katy, I checked and I also have a book from Lunde with 25 whirigig designs. The title is a little different from yours.
