General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Using Sprial Blades.... :+}
« on: November 01, 2012, 08:25:05 am »
I had the same experience with spirals.  The blades I tried were of the "inferior quality" and I still have some. I have tried giving those cheap blades away and no one wants them.  Next time I order from Mike, I plan to get a sample pack of spirals to try.  Glad you asked that question, maybe there is more information available.

A lot depends on what tools you use.  My shop is about a quarter mile from the little store we have here in the park, but when I use the joiner or planer,  folks down there will tell me they heard me "sawing" .  I usually answer Yep, working hard today.

I use an unventilated radiant propane heater. No problems so far.

Tried twice with no luck.  Will try again later. I do not usually complain when something is offered for free.  Usually I discover its something I did wrong!

My shop is a wooden shed with no heat. I only use heat when I am in there and have had no ill effects. The shop stays dry and I have not seen any rust on the tables of my tools.  I only cover the band saw. I do put a coat of paste wax on each one every so often. the scroll saw get waxed more often.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Ease of Blade Replacement

When I used the Porter Cable I found it a must to use the slotted PVC wrench to tighten the lower blade clamp.  After a few times, you will develope "eyes in your fingers" and the action will become automatic.

I too started out with blades from Lowes. I used them for a couple of months and thought I was happy.  A friend gave me a couple of Flying Dutchman blades to try and I have never gone back. Still have a bunch of those blades somewhere, but I hope they stay lost.

We dodged a major hit here. As the storm moved north, the winds shifted, coming out of the NW and pushed the storm surge back out to the ocean. The folks up in New Jersey, New York and Conn took a bad hit.  My heart and prayers go to them. We know what the are going through as we got that hit  from Isabel a few years ago.

I use the clear packing tape. tape on the board, pattern on top of the tape. No problems with dust under the tape. If the piece has som really small pieces I will use blue tape. I put the pattern on top because the glare from the tape makes it very difficult for me to see the pattern lines. I do not like to use mineral spirits due to the lingering odor.
