General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Do you use a magnifier/light combo?
« on: May 04, 2010, 11:45:45 pm »
Yes, I have been using one for years. It uses an incandescent bulb but I have a cfl in it. Not as bright as a bulb but it stays cooler.
When I teach at Woodcraft I have to use my bifocal safety glasses, but I prefer the magnifier.

I just found a translator on my computer! I have Windows Vista and if I right click on my mouse, there is a translator in the window that pops up!

Janet,
I played with mine tonight. There is a small slot on top of the black square fuse holder. Insert a small screwdriver and gently push down. The fuse holder will pop open and expose the fuse. now you can check the fuse.

Janet,
You pulled the whole fuse holder out! Chanches are the fuse blew when you had sparks. Unplug the saw. Push the holder back into the housing. Look at the front of fuse holder you will see an arrow pointing down. Use a small screwdriver to open the fuse holder and remove the fuse. If the fuse is blown, it will look burnt inside and the small filament will be broken. Replace with the correct amperage fuse.
Post back if that does not fix it.

Janet,
You do not have to tighten the clamps too tight. If the blade slips out of the clamp try cleaning the ends of the blade. I use 150 grit sandpaper folded in half with the grit on the inside. Also periodically lightly sand the end of the thumb screw so it is no longer shiny. You shouldn't have to use a tool to tighten the thumb screw on the DeWalt.
I don't know why you don't see saw dust on his saw, but I know it is there!

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Does anyone sell their stuff on etsy?
« on: May 01, 2010, 09:17:07 pm »
Janet,
I rarely sell any of my stuff. Most of what I make ends up as gifts. Some stuff ends up in the house and some is on display at the Woodcraft store where I teach.
I do cut pine cutouts for a couple of tole painting Teachers.

At the time my wife was in a tole painting club that met at our house once a week. Seeing the  cutouts they would buy at the tole store, I new I could do that if I had a scroll saw. So Santa brought me a Dremel saw that year.
I started cutting wood for about 12 women every week. Making about $300 a month, was able to buy new tools and build up a nice shop. That was about 15 years ago and the Dremel has been retired. I now have two DeWalt 788's.

I guess I'm in the minority here. Don't use one and don't have a need for a foot switch.
I sit on a bar stool and usually keep my feet on a stool rung or on the brace of the stand wile I'm sawing.
