General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Scroll Reverse Blade
« on: May 09, 2010, 04:47:44 pm »
Here is what I do when the tension on the blade is not tight enough. First release the tension. Push down on the upper arm. If there is slack on the blade, Release the lower blade clamp while still pushing down on the upper arm till the slack is removed. Then tighten the lower blade clamp and re-tension the saw.
Sometimes when I'm cutting the blade starts to wander off of the line I will check the tension and adjust as above.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Which side of blade???
« on: May 07, 2010, 09:09:22 pm »
I teach my students to pick a side and learn to stay with that especially if they plan to do fret work. In cutting complex fret work patterns it can become confusing and you can lose your way. If you know that your waste is on this side of the blade you wont get lost.
I cut counter clockwise, that is the waste on the right of the blade.

On the DeWalt there is a bar in front of the lower blade clamp. It is there to protect you fingers from the blade clamp if it is running. If you remove this guard you have better access to it.
Its so easy to just let the upper arm drop the blade into the hole, then reach down and tighten down the blade clamp. I do this without looking under the table as it becomes second nature to do!
Yes, I am a top feeder!

General Scroll Saw Talk / I am a top feeder!
« on: May 06, 2010, 12:24:10 am »
For those of you who have a saw with a lifting upper arm such as DeWalt and Excalibur, How many of you top Feed? With my old saw I had no choice but to feed from the bottom. But since I've owned my DeWalt, I have become a top feeder!
I do a lot of fret work and can't imagine feeding from the bottom any more.
So how about you, are you a bottom feeder or a top feeder?

This is a good group. I belong to two other woodworking forums and I find that I come here first! Then if I have time, I'll visit the others.
