General Scroll Saw Talk / Top feeding on a DeWalt
« on: May 30, 2010, 06:07:27 pm »
One of the best features of the DeWalt 788 is the ability to lift the upper arm and feed the blade from the top. The only problem I encounter is the bottom of the blade bends after tightening the lower blade clamp three or four times. This can make it difficult to load the blade into a tiny hole. Has anyone overcome this problem?

The Coffee Shop / This weekend
« on: May 30, 2010, 01:43:44 pm »
So what are you all doing this weekend? Today I will be watching auto racing all day.
The Indy 500 is on now, and later is NASCAR at Charlotte. Tomorrow I will be scrolling all day, then will be grilling a tri tip for dinner.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Newbie Needs Help!

Yes it does look fragile but I think you will be fine with 3/4" hardwood.
You could also use 1/4" and glue it to a backer board.
Good luck!

Hey Crabby, I could not find the pattern you are asking about, but I would use 1/2" to 3/4" hardwood such as walnut or mahogany. You could also use Baltic birch plywood that you could stain or paint.

OK, I found the pattern. I would not go thinner than 1/4", but I probably would use 1/2" hardwood. I like mahogany, so that's what I would use.

I've been thinking the same thing! I'm a member of two other woodworking sites but I seem to hang out here more often, so an off topic category sounds good to me.
