Hey Gray Beard, I thought the same thing about Bev Doolittle. Wouldn't her work be cool as intarsia?

It's been a long time since I did a portrait. This is from Rick McCulley and I believe it's called Face in Nature. Had fun cutting it. Picked up a frame from Goodwill for $2. Frame is a little rough, but overall I like it.

Comments welcome and critiques appreciated.

Thanks.

Congrats to ya Torsten!

I hear ya Gabby. I'm doing a craft fair this weekend and just got a Vendor Sales and Use Tax document for the state of KY. I don't mind paying my fair share, but since I can't control what my $$ get used for, I object to the state collecting off my hobby. I really like these shows because I get to meet people and often make them smile (as well as having them make me smile). I guess the government has finally found a way to tax a smile. (OK, I'm off my soapbox.)

So, I pull into the dealership to get a part for my car. As I get out of the car put the keys into my pocket. As I?m closing the door, a very attractive young lady walks by. I?ll call her my distraction. Well, I close the door with my right hand. You know what? It hurts real bad to close your fingers in the car door. I held back the pain for a few seconds, just enough to smile and nod at my distraction. She smiled back. As soon as she was around the corner, I felt a tear roll down my cheek. Then another one as I realized I had locked the door.

Do you know you can?t get keys out of you right pants pocket with your left hand? The pain was easing as my fingers grew numb. I hollered to a mechanic I saw and knew what to expect. He came over, laughed and said, ?I think I can help.? He walked back to the shop and returned with some tools and 10 other mechanics to ?see if they could help?. I thought this was the most embarrassing moment in my life. I explained about the distraction and told them I had my keys in my pocket but didn?t feel right having another man reach into my pants. One of the guys said, ?I?d get the bosses wife but she went out for coffee.?

Just then someone said, ?Oh, here she comes now.? That?s right, the bosses wife was my distraction. THIS is now the most embarrassing moment of my life.

After a little more ribbing my fingers were finally free. It didn?t feel too bad for a second, then I think I cried like a baby. I did go in and get my part then straight to see a doctor. No broken bones, just some more chuckles.

Boy, the things we do to make peoples day!

Sorry Gabby. I sometimes don't explain things so well. I cut the wood blank in half lenghtwise, then cut the horse from just the one side, then glue the blank back together. This way it only shows on one side. I did it that way so I could add some words to the other side if I wanted to. Hope it makes sense.

I'm using some cheap Elmers spray adhesive. It works great. I think it was $4 a can.

Thanks folks.

Bill, that's a great idea for a key chain. I never thought of that. As far as making the pen, I cut the design on a pen blank with the scroll saw then turned it on the lathe. I did see someone actually made some round pens using a scroll saw and belt sander. They came out pretty good, too.
