I have never tried it but I have herd of people who have with good results. My concern would be the raising of the grain from using the dye mixed with water.
You may want to raise the grain on your wood with a damp sponge. Then when dry sand off the raised fibers. Then dye.

Steve, I would not recommend installing casters on the DeWalt stand. The stand will be unstable and it will raise the saw to high to work comfortable, for me at least.
The Woodcraft store that I teach at installed casters on the DeWalt saw that I use for demonstrations and I hate it!
If you want to make it Mobil, I would check out Amazon. They have an HTC Mobil base made for the DeWalt saw. It is expensive, but it will keep the base on the ground.

I don't have a camera so I can't take a picture, but I made a small parts holder. It's a handle I turned on the lathe, with a very small wood screw on the end. I drill a small hole on the back of the small intarsia piece, screw it onto the the tool and sand away!
Maybe I will get my son to take a picture with his camera so I can post it here.

Hey Russ, why use poly if you already applied lacquer? On all my scroll work, I only apply lacquer. Works for me!
