The Coffee Shop / Gabby is communicating again
« on: March 07, 2012, 10:18:13 am »
I got a response to an email this morning from our old buddy Gabby.  He is on the mend and should be posting again soon.  He asked me to say hello and to tell everyone he would be bugging them soon.

I try and make a modest donation a couple of times per year.  This was just one of those times.  I couldn't afford to pay an amount commensurate with what I have received from Steve and his sites.

Thanks to everybody who took the time to look and vote!  Tonight is the end of the contest, and if I have calculated correctly I will come in as the runner Up and qualify for a $75 gift card.  Your help is appreciated.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Adhering Pattern to Wood.... :+}

I use the same as Newfie.  I take in the empty ink cartridges from my office (instead of throwing them out) and each month get a few bucks in "Rewards" dollars.  Last month I got enough that a box of 100 sheets of self stick 8 1/2 by 11 cost me $10.  That should last a good while.

Here on the Gulf Coast we have a termite which doesn't require contact with the soil.  It's called the drywood termite and spends its entire life inside wood except when it swarms to create a new colony.  I got out of woodworking for a few years, and when I started again I found that the handles of most of my lathe chisels had been consumed from the inside.

That very thing gave me a problem last night Dan.  I took a piece of 7/8 (actual) cherry, resawed it, and no matter how many times I put it through the planer, I couldn't get two 1/2 inch pieces.   ::)

Good to see this thread come back up.  I cook on my Big Green Egg year round.  Sometimes I'm grilling like Gabby described, sometimes I'm smoking like Chief.  I like to use scraps of my cherry wood from projects as "smoking" material, and strictly "lump" charcoal.  Maple works good for flavoring also.  We did rib eye steaks last night for our youngest son's birthday.

Now make a backup copy of it before it quits working again.  CD's are optical devices and the film layer can break down.
