I agree with Dan. The moisture wicks out to the ends and the ends loose moisture rapidly causing the splitting/checking. Cut it off and paint the ends.

I does need to be very thick. I made mine and used a 4" bolt. There is aprox. 2 " of sand paper in the center and it flares out to aprox 3". Works great.

The first day of Autumn here is Thursday, September 23rd. That is our youngest sons birthday. We have two things to celebrate tomorrow. I will be glad when it cools off some.

Don't get discouraged. I went to two shows back to back and didn't sell a thing. Talking about a slap in the face. Also I donated some of my work for two years to the CCA before they decided to buy from me. You just have to keep doing what you love and if you make a sale it's a fringe benefit.
