Great idea and work there Jimbo. That would also look nice to inlay contrasting wood and then do the scroll work.

Thanks everyone. The pattern for the sleds are from Sheila Landry. I found them in an old issue of one of the magazines, but I'm pretty sure she sells them at her web site. The runners I designed with the year. What's nice is when I get customers at local shows that bought one last year and returned for this years sled.

Here's the pattern for the runners. Don't let the pattern limit the design. I did some for my family two years ago and put their name in the runners.

Nice work Karl. The dogs look so lively. Grampa did a great job with the pattern, too.

I love making these. I usually have 10 or 12 at craft shows and always sell out. So this time I hope to be prepared. I have 28 done and blanks for 28 more ready to be cut. The tree, reindeer, and candle patterns are from Sheila Landry and the Snowman is one I made from clipart. All the runners have "2011" on them. Woods used are maple, cherry, walnut, sycamore, oak, and sapelle. I have two shows in Nov and one in Dec so I hope these will last. If I have any left over, I know what everyone at work is getting for Christmas.

I've seen someone else do the same thing on a video. It is pretty neat.

Did anyone else notice when she held up the bottles of modge podge and gel that the images were not right? The words on the bottles are backwards. Not sure if she meant to do that or but I had to watch it again to see if there was anything else out of place.

Jimbo, my understanding is that Modge Podge is a white glue (like Elmer's) that dries clear. It's a little thinner than Elmer's so you can brush it on the front of a picture to add a protective coating. It's used a lot in decoupage.

Not sure what you're looking for but I'll start.

Nice job David. I have to agree with your nephew, a coat of silver or gold paint would make them nice. Also, try using some contrasting hardwoods next time or something like padauk. Then you may not event need to add a finish.

Thanks for the comments and interest in the pattern. I'm still sort of new to the site and not sure if there's a place to post patterns so for now I'll leave it in this thread.
