General Scroll Saw Talk / Cutting Compound Patterns.... :+(
« on: September 23, 2013, 11:43:18 am »
Just wondering.
     Example.... 2 inch Pine stock.  Cut from Store bought 2x4 Recently.
                       Very SLOW cutting.  Used UR5.  Also tried other blade types Slow!

                       Cut 15 Compound bird houses from a 2x4 that I had sitting in my
                        shop for over a year.  Some what on the slow side, but not boring.

My feelings are maybe store bought lumber is bought on the side of still being wet and HARD.

QUESTION......................IS THERE A ....BETTER BLADE.... for this purpose????
                                          Thanks to any that reply......................Danny  :+}

Can you see the ONE Upside-down?  Blush  Anyway these are a Diana Thompson Designs.
Used a 2x4 ripped down to make 2-- 1.25 Sq. blocks 4 foot long.  Was more of a Slow Go
with cutting them as compared to a normal Portrait Or>  I had lots of fun cutting them as
it was always a Surprise when I pulled out the shape in the middle.  Like a Chick getting
ready to be hatched.  Funny huh?  Anyway any good or bad comments will be nice....  +}

Couldn't resist showing my Paint Booth.  What remains of a childs toy box....AND....
Can you guess which College Football Team will again be SEC Champions this year?

Thanks for looking peoples..................Danny  :+}

Agree to everything said above, but the Random Orbital Sander in my shop is used before any
project gets started.  Danny  :+}

I bought 15 patterns from Shelia of Bird Houses.  Was a little Leary with the first one as I have never
attempted this.  Well I'm on the last 2 and Simple LOVE Cutting them.  Its like waiting for that
Surprise lil house to come popping out of the middle of that square hunk of wood.  And to look at each
and admire.  Anyway....  BY ANY CHANCE....  Do we have a Designer of these out there that would
let me have some patterns?  Not particular of what that lil surprise might be inside.  Well now I shall
just sit back and ....wait....   Thanks in Advance..................................Danny  :+}

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Glass In Portrait Frames?
« on: September 11, 2013, 03:49:28 pm »
Well maybe thats why I have trouble selling mine.  Till this year I have NEVER used glass.  Make my
frames.  Since we're on this subject.  HOW DOES EVERYONE FEEL ABOUT USING A....PLEXIGLASS????

Was given what seems like Plexiglass that came off a BIG projector T.V.  Trashed the T.V. It seems
like it is 1/16"....  Thanks for comments....

And like Dustin I have been picking up some Yard sale frames.  Most seem to be made out of Plastic,
but sure look expensive.  Thanks for any Comments....  Danny  :+}

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Plaque Hanger.... ?
« on: September 11, 2013, 02:18:06 pm »
Sure want to THANK All for your comments.  I had had bad luck using Hot Glue in the past, but maybe
there is the Better Glue stick.

Like the idea of using the REAL SMALL SCREWS along with a Sawtooth hanger.  Only have the total
of 1/4" so would need a real small screw.

But since my FAVORITE GLUE is the same as GB suggested I will experiment with this.

On light weight plaques I have placed a sawtooth hanger on the back, marked where the nail holes are and then applied a small 'puddle' of Alene's Tacky Glue at each spot, let sit far a minute and then just embed the hanger into the glue so it flows through the holes of the hanger and spread it around. Let dry overnight and I have not had one pull out yet.  GB

Thanks to all again................Danny  :+}

Gee it sure is a Great thing to be a part of our Scrolling family.  Thanks Steve....:+}

Thanks for all you comments.  Made my day.  Yea!  Actually the Paint job came out
of a Spray can. Krylon and others have the color and primer all in one can.
The Letters are DECALS....

I made half with glued on tops and the other half not glued.  This was Dan26 idea
as maybe someone might want to use it to store items or even a candy decanter.
Possibilities huh?

The size is....Hiegth 4.5"    Length 4.5" and Width 2.75"

Most of them are made from 1/4" Popular.... Others are from 1/4" Oak Ply

Had a few scraps laying around, so made 2 more ....Size....  3x3x1.5.  Cute lil thing.  LOL

Thanks again my Friends............Danny  :+}

General Scroll Saw Talk / Plaque Hanger.... ?
« on: September 10, 2013, 04:54:31 pm »
Marcel gave me a way, but was wondering what everyone eles does.
                  Plaques or whatever that are cut on 1/8 or even 1/4 stock.  Each will also have a
1/8 backer.  Not enough wood for a sawtooth hanger which I always use.  Any methods out there?
